'The wheel of spiritual experience,' based on the spirituality typology proposed by Urban T Holmes in his book, A History of Christian Spirituality, was developed and tested.  Results show that the instrument is helpful in three ways. The study provides a biblical, theological, and historical foundation for stewardship, psychological temperament, and the relationship of the two.  The responses of seventy-eight individuals from three different congregations to a forty-question survey were analyzed. Spiritual well-being is defined as Christlikeness related to mankind as created in the image of God.  The eight categories of Christian maturity measured by the Religious Status Inventory, developed at Fuller Graduate School of Psychology, further refine the definition of spiritual well-being. To a degree, human diversity parallels the diversity between denominations and congregations within the church of Jesus Christ.  The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and Keirsey's Temperament Theory were utilized to explore various groupings within the church to see whether or not distinctions can be noted within the Jungian framework. A number of groups were surveyed and the results were statistically significant.  In terms of the doctrine of the church, the parallels between the individual in Jungian psychology and units of the church begin to break down when pushed too far. To demonstrate this thesis, people were chosen randomly from six Lutheran congregations of various sizes and contexts for ministry.  Each person was given the Myers-Briggs Personality Indicator and a worship questionnaire.  The scores of these instruments were standardized and correlated, and the statistical evidence supported the thesis.  The implications of this study for a congregation's evangelism and worship planning are manifold. It is intended to facilitate: 1. the identification and affirmation of personal values and strengths, and 2. the development of one particular resource which will inform intentional church planting. The study reviews both Jungian typology, upon which the MBTI is based, and the instrument itself. Application of type awareness is related to the preparation, presentation, and evaluation of sermons.
