Research was done into the theological basis for dealing with conflict.  Literature as well as in-person interviews of Unitarian historians were used to draw a record of how Unitarians and Universalists have dealt with conflicts in the past.  Extensive use of personal interviews was employed to gather information from leaders, lay and clergy, of the congregations targeted for the study. The place of human moral freedom is called into question.  The problem is to construct an adequate, meaningful doctrine of free moral will which is 'true' within an evolutionary framework.  The theologies of Ralph W Burhoe and Henry N Wieman are reviewed to discover their doctrines of free moral will in light of evolutionary theory.  They are found to be inadequate for liberal religion.
