The basic purpose was to aid United Methodists in the appropriation of their catholic heritage through an actual study of the pertinent eucharistic writings of the two Wesleys. The largest part of the dissertation deals with the following eucharistic motifs found in the Wesleyan literature: constant communion, real presence, sacrifice and medicine of immortality. Attention is also given to Wesley's 1784 Sunday Service, Methodism's Anglican roots and the progress of liturgical renewal in the United Methodist Church. The project concludes that an exposure to the writings and sacramental practices of the Wesleys increases the desire for more frequent celebrations of the eucharist."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Christian Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["795851c5-e081-4353-9c00-2c554dd1d015"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134937157468160,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:43:06.785Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:32:31Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:29:39Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"6a12c212-2e06-4bd6-9c2d-22d2dccc4376","accessControl_ssim":["e7cd9c09-cb19-4dc7-bb09-9dcc581c0a89"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["An analysis of a Wesleyan mode for Bible study"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:32:30Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:14:11Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6237e47c-c351-4a34-ac2d-b66038ba275a"],"hasLease_ssim":["96de1f05-7cb8-4192-8840-018b0fe7e325"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Nazarene Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Paul M Bassett"],"year_tesim":["1987"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Jay E Hunton"],"keyword_tesim":["Wesleyanism"],"publisher_tesim":["Nazarene Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Wesley, John, 1703-1791","Bible--Study"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["It is important to a church, whose traditions and doctrine are Wesleyan, to understand a Wesleyan perspective for Bible study. For followers of Wesley the Bible is the Word of God in human words. But, its purpose is not fundamentally to show contradiction between humans and God. Its fundamental purpose is to show how people may become God-like in this life. The role of scripture is to encourage us to be Christ-like without denying the sinfulness of our nature apart from grace. This ministry project develops a Bible study program which reflects a Wesleyan view of the nature and role of scripture. This dissertation deals particularly with Wesley's emphasis on the dignity of man, the possibilities of grace, total stewardship, and God's perfect love expressed through man. The author researched Wesley's sermons, diary, letters and treatises, and read several textbooks on liberation theology, to discover similarities and contrasts. She concludes that total Christian stewardship is biblical and practical for helping today's suffering world."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799718636493996032,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:37:20.382Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:13:11Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:30:42Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"adbd06e4-62af-49fc-a5bd-343d04818aaa","accessControl_ssim":["54668b23-3134-4b7b-9a22-1fca9f9928a7"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The training of college persons as lay ministers in the Free Methodist Church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:13:10Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:09:03Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["1152d160-018a-48a0-a538-e26f20728204"],"hasLease_ssim":["80f81ec0-9443-44b3-8ee3-e2e2ce8b43b4"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Phillips Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Brian W Kovacs","W Clark Gilpin"],"year_tesim":["1984"],"location_tesim":["United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Bruce C Johnson"],"keyword_tesim":["Relation (Theology)"],"publisher_tesim":["Phillips Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Church work","Clergy","Church--History of doctrines","Wesley, John, 1703-1791","Laity","Free Methodist Church of North America","Methodist Church"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This report outlines the theological foundations for a project designed for an ordained minister to train college persons for a ministry within a college affiliated with the Free Methodist Church. The thesis/text is divided into two parts which address the sociological and theological dimensions of the church, respectively. Part one deals with the context of the church in America, the development of denominationalism, and the church and culture in terms of the church as a product of culture. Part two deals with the church in the New Testament, the views of Luther, Calvin and Wesley on the church, Avery Dulles' models of the church, and considers the views of Karl Barth and H Richard Niebuhr. The thesis/text suggests that our understanding of the church is best expressed in dialectical terms. God is the one who calls us, loves us and reaches out to us first, but there is also a human response. The 'true church' is invisible, but it is also visible."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717876446265344,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:25:15.544Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:20:17Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:30:13Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"08f5f595-78a7-4a30-b753-ef0023141d12","accessControl_ssim":["55c420be-fcd4-450f-946d-22d4a53a91b2"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Confirmation: a rite of initiation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:20:13Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:22:30Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["258e6061-bd31-4378-a9a1-0703b591ee4b"],"hasLease_ssim":["8e7916b5-7792-4923-be21-ca347589c319"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Perkins School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["L Howard Grimes"],"year_tesim":["1982"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["John Edwin Albright"],"publisher_tesim":["Perkins School of Theology Southern Methodist University"],"subject_tesim":["Grace (Theology)","Wesley, John, 1703-1791","Baptism--Methodist Church","Theology","Infant baptism","Confirmation--Methodist Church"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of the practicum was to design a model for confirmation training where seventh grade boys and girls could be involved in total initiation processes where both grace and faith are supporting ingredients in the identity of the Christian.
