This proposal recommends maintaining requirements which are directly scriptural, and moving present requirements which are mostly historical, social and cultural in origin to the category of special directions (admonitions not required for membership).  The methodological approach involved equipping the elders through training sessions. A subsequent purpose was to present those findings to the Department of Local Church Education of the Wesleyan Church for practical consideration and utilization.  The primary purpose was accomplished through research in records and publications preserved in the denominational archives. The subsequent purpose was accomplished in a seminar presentation to the department. The sermon situation is defined as a spirit-intensive encounter between preacher and congregation, based on the doctrine of the Holy Spirit, as found in a Wesleyan Holiness denomination.
