This project focuses on how this tradition adversely affects the single, heterosexual Protestant Black woman's understanding of herself as a sexual being. Using the qualitative research method of phenomenology, this research explores how Black women's experiences and other sources for theological ethics can inform their desire to reconcile sexual and spiritual goodness. This report reveals that the difficulty in this reconciliation has roots in the larger issues of church-condoned gender hierarchy, Christianity's hierarchal dualism, and American (USA) race-based oppression and injustice."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129286153863168,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:13:17.567Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:52:42Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:49:44Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"893f0135-ed90-4326-a7df-e604375a610d","accessControl_ssim":["bd42b164-b415-456a-8f24-42ba4a468f08"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Why not more Black women leaders? From the literature she studied historical, theological, psychological, socio-political and economic factors.  The author's field research includes a leadership survey and a related case study for peer discussion groups on a focus group of twenty-five Black Christian female respondents who are leaders or emerging leaders.  She presents a theological context of women walking in calling and potential as kings and priests unto God who practice and administer a biblical framework of social justice and fairness in their respective spheres of influence. She concludes that Black women have made great strides but there are many areas in life that continue to have only token expressions, if that, of Black women.  Extended-period, interactive, leadership developmental forums in the form of mentoring retreats or empowering, collaborative networks are identified needs for the enriched personal and spiritual development of Black women."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131582395842560,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:49:47.435Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:42:27Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:19:50Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"5094ceda-da28-48a7-8049-cd5203a5678f","accessControl_ssim":["c52553e4-f63d-4e59-9327-dd049f5cab56"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Breaking the taboo: black women as pastors in the black Baptist tradition"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:42:26Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:29:54Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["19af4d1f-79bd-4d3c-b3bb-8b78c59240c0"],"hasLease_ssim":["74eff2cc-c7cd-4bb3-9190-d316bf66fa61"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"advisor_tesim":["Julieanne S Hallman"],"year_tesim":["1991"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Tina T Saxon"],"publisher_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Women, Black","African American Baptists","Ordination of women"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Many Black Baptist Church leaders today argue (claiming St Paul's support) for more widespread ordination of women leaders. The guidelines/strategies were developed during a care-giving ministry that was in operation from January 1972 through December 1987.  The summary and results are based on data compiled through the use of a guided interview format.  Interview questions were used at the beginning and end of the program.  An assessment of the program's effectiveness indicated that the program was a success.  This project is written to elevate the lives of poor Black single mothers.  Its roots are embedded in developing relationships and caring for a segment of our community that is all but forgotten, the inner-city or urban America.  The basic premise is that relationships are the keys to changing lives. Regardless of the plight of people, everyone wants to be in relationship with someone whom he or she can respect and trust.  Poor people, especially single poor Black mothers, are no exception."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Boston University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["2d58bd09-76d0-4970-b257-d55229e0173e"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717380383834112,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:17:22.462Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":4,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Resource Type"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"Horace R Pratt","hits":1,"label":"Horace R Pratt"},{"value":"Marilyn E Weekes","hits":1,"label":"Marilyn E Weekes"},{"value":"Tina T Saxon","hits":1,"label":"Tina T Saxon"},{"value":"Willecia L Crawford","hits":1,"label":"Willecia L Crawford"}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"contributor_sim","items":[],"label":"Contributor"},{"name":"keyword_sim","items":[],"label":"Keyword"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[{"value":"Women, Black","hits":4,"label":"Women, Black"},{"value":"African American Baptists","hits":1,"label":"African American Baptists"},{"value":"African American leadership","hits":1,"label":"African American leadership"},{"value":"African American women","hits":1,"label":"African American women"},{"value":"African Americans--Religion","hits":1,"label":"African Americans--Religion"},{"value":"Church and social problems","hits":1,"label":"Church and social problems"}],"label":"Subject"},{"name":"location_sim","items":[],"label":"Location"},{"name":"language_sim","items":[{"value":"English","hits":4,"label":"English"}],"label":"Language"},{"name":"publisher_sim","items":[{"value":"Andover Newton Theological School","hits":1,"label":"Andover Newton Theological School"},{"value":"Boston University School of Theology","hits":1,"label":"Boston University School of Theology"},{"value":"Columbia Theological Seminary","hits":1,"label":"Columbia Theological Seminary"},{"value":"Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary","hits":1,"label":"Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Publisher"},{"name":"date_created_sim","items":[],"label":"Date Created"},{"name":"types_sim","items":[{"value":"Text","hits":4,"label":"Text"}],"label":"Type"},{"name":"year_sim","items":[{"value":"1988","hits":1,"label":"1988"},{"value":"1991","hits":1,"label":"1991"},{"value":"2006","hits":1,"label":"2006"},{"value":"2012","hits":1,"label":"2012"}],"label":"Year"},{"name":"format_sim","items":[],"label":"Format"},{"name":"member_of_collections_ssim","items":[{"value":"Andover Newton Theological School","hits":1,"label":"Andover Newton Theological School"},{"value":"Boston University","hits":1,"label":"Boston University"},{"value":"Columbia Theological Seminary","hits":1,"label":"Columbia Theological Seminary"},{"value":"Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary","hits":1,"label":"Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Collections"},{"name":"degree_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":4,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Degree"},{"name":"discipline_sim","items":[],"label":"Discipline"},{"name":"degree_granting_institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Andover Newton Theological School","hits":1,"label":"Andover Newton Theological School"},{"value":"Boston University","hits":1,"label":"Boston University"},{"value":"Columbia Theological Seminary","hits":1,"label":"Columbia Theological Seminary"},{"value":"Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary","hits":1,"label":"Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Degree Granting Institution"},{"name":"department_sim","items":[],"label":"Department"},{"name":"funder_name_sim","items":[],"label":"Funder Name"},{"name":"event_title_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Title"},{"name":"event_date_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Date"},{"name":"institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Atla RIM","hits":4,"label":"Atla RIM"}],"label":"Host Institution"}],"pages":{"current_page":1,"next_page":null,"prev_page":null,"total_pages":1,"limit_value":10,"offset_value":0,"total_count":4,"first_page?":true,"last_page?":true}}}
