At the time of the fieldwork the researcher had been unchurched for over three years. As the unchurched demographic continues to grow, their reasons for severing ties with their local churches are explored. The hypothesis espousers that interacting with the unchurched will provide insights into ways to spiritually engage them. Fifteen unchurched women were interviewed for this qualitative, ethnographic study. The situation of the diocese of Bismark is similar to most rural dioceses in the United States. Integrating gender studies, rural sociology, rural catechetical ministry and contemporary leadership theory, this thesis-project maintains that leadership development uniquely focused for women in rural catechetical ministry will increase their sense of self as leader and leadership practices. The study gives voice to rural women involved in catechetical ministry as they expressed themselves in various sessions. The course, entitled, 'Women and Jesus, Women and Paul,' is an attempt, using the historical-critical method of biblical scholarship, to trace the growth of misogynism, both biblical and societal, from its origin in Greek philosophy, to its culmination in the pastoral epistles. In the process, the example and teachings of Jesus are studied, as well as the writings of the Pauline corpus, both authentic and pseudo.  The content of the research is extensively detailed, and the method of instruction outlined and discussed. The evidence was excerpted from the scriptures, from portions of formative theology, from feminist writings in the social sciences, and from three case studies in which various psychotherapuetic models were used in the counseling sessions that demonstrate the impact of the abuse of power. Of interest is the God-image, one of many other object relations created by a child while in relationship with the alcoholic parent.  This image of God persists throughout life unless either events or personal effort causes it to change.  Based upon this image, a person forms characteristics of God that profoundly affect the way she/he relates to God and the environment.  Each subject was asked questions from modified and abbreviated Rizzuto 'Family' and 'God' questionnaires.  After answering questions about each parent, the subjects were asked to mark sixteen word-pairs in accordance with how they related to each one.  Finally, they were asked questions about God and marked sixteen identical word-pairs. These commonalities become appropriate considerations in the tasks of 1) pastoral psychotherapy and 2) the language of theology.  A methodology of stepwise interviews was incorporated in a qualitative study of ten 'barren' women.  This population was chosen under the assumption that the frustration of the childbearing capacity engendered in a woman who wanted to bear children a necessity to articulate and thereby resolve her loss. The results indicate, in the context of childbearing, commonalities in the use of certain metaphors, styles of speaking, types of experience, and ways of relating to oneself, others, and God. There will be concentration on teaching new communication skills which will allow the members to relate to each other more effectively.  The hypothesis of this paper is: 1. facilitation with the members of a small local community will increase skills in communication, problem solving, sharing of feelings, confronting and challenging each other on issues significant to them, and 2. the group will be enabled to reduce its conflict and enhance its relational skills in a three-month period.  At the end of a three-month period an evaluation of the project by interviewing the participants and by giving them a written questionnaire will take
