Over a three year period efforts were made to explore biblical stories concerning women with a group of women in a small rural parish.  Methods included Bible study, retreat days, Sunday preaching, and use of scripture in pastoral counseling. Periodic evaluation and shared reflections were used as indicators of growth. Current discussions are based on resources from outside the denomination.  This dissertation provides an in-depth denominational study to stimulate further discussion and upon which to begin to build a biblical view of the role of women in the church. The research includes an overview of contemporary Christian feminism, an extensive history of Advent Christian women and their contributions to the denomination, an exegesis of selected Pauline passages concerning women in the church and the practical implications for Advent Christians today. It offers preachers an alternate method to teach the redemption story so that biblical, theological and historical lessons are learned.
