Corinthians I","Presbyterian Church"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This study seeks to discern what we can know about the Corinthian Christians' worship.  Every portion of the letter is squeezed for every inference that can be drawn as to 1st century cultic practice which can be translated into our contemporary liturgy.  Directions, examples, implications, and first principles drawn from the text of 1 Corinthians are conjoined by the author with the contemporary church at worship.  He then describes what we may do as contemporary Protestants to recapture something of the New Testament fervor. The findings are: 1) 1 Corinthians is a unity, built around the central theme of the church's need to express its joy in the gospel as it upbuilds itself in love; 2) The great hymns to love (13) and resurrection (15) are not extraneous additions, but central expressions of that underlying message; 3) If we are to rediscover this, it is clear that we must build on that same foundation, to wait for and encourage each other, to make room for great difference of taste and doctrine, and to discover our unity in the resurrection. Research is based on the formulation of a theology of the church, a theology of worship, and practical surveys of church life by interviewing former parishioners and visiting other congregations for worship.  The study leads to the conclusion that churches can find renewal of congregational life and worship. In addition to conducting extensive biblical, historical, and doctrinal research, the student delivered weekly children's sermons over a four year period in consultation with a core of selected lay persons. Many Korean-American churches suffer due to the divisions caused by the generation gap and cultural barriers between the Korean and English-speaking congregations.  The Joy Korean-American Church created a model of 'blended worship' in order to overcome the disharmony and distrust, and to reconcile the differences of the two congregations. The author felt that Christians should understand the meaning of worship and also experience it first-hand.  The author first researched the Bible, looking for passages that would help him to understand the ways of worship further.  The history of worship from the Old Testament was compared with that of the New Testament, and the duties of worship were researched. The members of Emmanuel Mission Church were given a series of seminars and questionnaires every two weeks.  As the author charted these seminars and questionnaires, he saw growing progress. This research using Corinne Ware's Spiritual Type Profile, with exit interview survey statistics obtained by the institution, was conducted in a medium/minimum correctional facility which housed approximately 500 adult females. Korean Christians are seeking now to stick with their traditional forms of worship services. Thus, this project researches the biblical and historical foundations of worship, and studies the social and psychological factors of Shamanism, Buddhism and Confucianism for present-day Korean worship. These factors were discussed in chapter two and three.  Chapter four focused on the implementation of the Worship Committee training sessions and on the planning for the new worship services.  The methodology of teaching was lecture, discussion and visiting of other churches' worship service. Chapter five analyzed and evaluated the goals, methodology used, data collected from the research instruments and the Worship Committee training program. By attaining biblical perspectives concerning worship and by developing and implementing a worship committee, the church became aware of the importance of various elements of worship and the need for a change in the style of worship. The project drew on research into the biblical and theological basis of worship.  Insights from the traditional, contemporary and blended worship styles were presented. Four sermons and several creative worship services were planned.
