Critics fear that contemporary worship creates religious consumers, not authentic disciples.  This thesis, however, maintains that deeply-rooted generational patterns, the impact of media, and the tensions between order and ardor, identity and relevance, and congregational culture and mission, have spurred a hunger for contemporary culture. This paper focuses on the image of God and the experiences of power presented in the worship service in liturgy and preaching, as they impact the lives of the participants.  To do this one must provide alternative images of power, to widen one's comprehension of God.  the study uses surveys and discussion groups to evaluate the results.
