In Africa, where oral tradition, communalism, illiteracy, and poverty prevail, it is imperative that the church make use of the media seriously in its task of evangelism.  Uganda is discussed as a model for such an evangelism project through the broadcast media. A distinction is made between the management of the church as an institution and the management of ministry. Hymnody is used paradigmatically to demonstrate that worship and church administration are integrally related. The root meaning of 'liturgy' etymologically illustrates this point: leitourgia means 'the work of the people'. This paper suggests the thesis that worship and ministry are activities of all Christians (both clergy and laity). Church administration is the framework for effective ministry. A survey was taken of a number of churches and pastors in urban, suburban and rural areas to gain an understanding of the relationship of preaching to moral decision making.  Out of this a determination of satisfaction with pulpit ministry was compared to satisfaction with other pastoral functions. In both contexts, that of mysticism and that of psychotherapy, paradoxes are set up in such a fashion that significant life change becomes possible for the mystical seeker/therapy client.  The process of change that is initiated by paradoxes is described using the models of the respective fields. Work with the parish's Christian Service Task Force prompted research leading to the use of a pastoral letter by Bishop Howard Hubbard, and to Robert Greenleaf's Servant leadership. A synthesis of these sources produced a role description of the parish priest as that of affirming, coordinating and facilitating the lay ministry by fulfilling a 'first among equals' role in the context of the parish council.
