Such teaching and preparation enables more effective listening to sermons and better equips the listener for ministry. This action-reflection project with 19 members of St Paul's United Church was designed to animate lay people within a supportive environment to explore an opportunity for ministry.  Utilizing the Structuralist method of biblical interpretation, T H Groome's praxis method of theological reflection, and papers and exercises on the history and faith of the church, participants explored and wrote personal statements of faith concerning their ministry.  They then identified their gifts and analyzed them according to skills, which were then categorized by priority.  The third section explored personal mission through study papers and a pairing exercise to identify the specific context and meaning of ministry. The objectives of this project are threefold: 1) It is designed to create a biblically based hermeneutic that utilizes the guidelines of scripture, tradition, experience, and reason; 2) The Bethel Series and the Trinity Bible Studies are evaluated in the light of this hermeneutic.  The evaluation of these series involved the compiling and comparing of questionnaires administered to a class using The Bethel Series and one using the Trinity Bible Series. The style of pastoral intervention employed is built on the theoretical base of third party consultation, using System 4 leadership principles.  Major findings are that women do want their minister to care about their group, to promote it, to encourage new women to participate, to be a resource and to attend some activities. This project describes the United Methodist Women's group studied, the process of intervention, the feedback instrument, and the results.
