This project-thesis investigates causes and symptoms of burnout in the clergy and their similarity to the ancient sin of acedia, titled the 'Noonday Devil' by the Desert Fathers. Interfaith Ministries is a unique cooperative effort of 30 Christian congregations and one Jewish congregation. Five workshops, with continual evaluation and reflection, were conducted in three settings: in a cluster of churches, in a continuing education course for ministers involving theological reflection, and in one local church.  There was steady growth in understanding by facilitator and participants. The hypothesis was:  Effective incorporation and nurture of early adolescents in the Christian initiation process, particularly through preparation for Confirmation, is dependent upon a structured and active involvement on the part of the parents and godparents/sponsors in the faith community of the local parish.  A confirmation program was designed for 6th-graders and their parents.  Two tracks, one for the 6th-graders and one for the parents, ran concurrently during an eight-month period.
