Its basic thesis is that a minister possessing minimal counseling training can effectively prepare couples for marriage by adherence to its design. In addition, an extensive survey of other methods of preparing couples for marriage is presented. One method rarely used by Protestants is the study of biographies of spiritual masters with the express purpose of teaching the lessons of spiritual development. Six spiritual masters, Augustine, Teresa of Avila, Martin Luther, Jonathan Edwards, Harry Emerson Fosdick, and Georgia Harkness, were presented to a study group at the United States Naval Academy.  Pre- and post-testing with a professionally developed instrument to ascertain if measurable change occurred as a consequence of exposure to these spiritual masters was done. One must seek to understand the historical and psychosocial dimensions of religious involvement as well.  The method of study for the thesis was the psychosocial, historical, and doctrinal comparison of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Unification Church, and Protestant evangelicals. Present practice is not consistent with historical Christianity nor with Wesleyan Methodism.  To be actively involved in the healing of the broken body of Christ this part of their heritage must be understood and reclaimed. Meeting with a reflection group, representative of the congregation, Methodist eucharistic heritage, ecumenical and liturgical renewal, and local customs were studied. The church year provided the vehicle through which themes of the eucharist were celebrated.  Taped interviews with the congregation following each service helped assess progress. Three main studies were included:  first, a study of the size and location of churches having produced Conservative Baptist foreign missionaries; second, a survey of Conservative Baptist churches to determine the number of missionaries and other Christian workers produced by those churches; third, a six-part program to promote missionary interest in rural churches.  The program was tested in five churches. The structural growth of the movement in eastern and western Canada and the initial organic relationship with the Assemblies of God in the United States are documented. Deacons and pastor-advisors in 119 Presbyterian churches were surveyed to discover organization and models of deacon ministry. Many current programs and activities are based upon historical traditions.  The author saw a need to evaluate present procedures in the light of history feeling that such a study would reveal any effective or fragmented practices and policies, strengthen the present ministry, and contribute to the design of future strategy.  After reading extensively in the areas of biblical and theological foundations for missions, missiology, historiography and Spanish history, the author thoroughly investigated the records, minutes, documents and archives of the Baptist mission to Spain and interviewed missionaries and Spaniards having a personal knowledge of the history of the mission.  Letters and documents were obtained from other religious agencies. Exploratory research and theological correlation procedures were employed.  The project conceptualizes how liberation ministry can best serve the needs of the estranged person in this church.  The model for pastoral care in the institutional geriatric church represents theory building. Personal contact, sermons, classes and administrative plans all played a part.
