Thirteen parents (eleven women and two men) considered developmental and child-rearing models, researched their findings and reflected personal experience within a supportive atmosphere.  The result of their interaction was a cyclical, sensitizing process which could have transferable applications within other contexts. The context for this effort was Mount Vernon Nazarene College, Mount Vernon, Ohio.  The program focused on the use of student singing groups to make the contact for the college with the churches. The project sought, through introducing them to persons from various hospital disciplines, to provide the holistic approach to caring for the sick and dying patient. Participants were given an opportunity to visit patient wards and to reflect upon their experience through the peer group process.  Participants were to read three books during the three months.  the objectives of the project were: 1) to involve persons incarcerated in a state prison in spiritual direction; 2) to help them discover that they are in personal relationship with a God who loves them unconditionally; 3) to enable them to discover that profound human freedom can issue from such a relationship; and 4) to note and critique the impact that this kind of relationship has on the person's sense of self, the person's choices about his/her life and the person's relationships with others. The author anticipated that the focus of spiritual direction on developing a personal relationship with God would effect a new sense of personal freedom and an ability to consider options and make decisions to change one's lifestyle and the course of one's future. This project was done as a ministry of reconciliation.  Its purpose was to get churches in the lake area to appropriate as their own a new chaplaincy program to campers on the lake.  The author experienced the chaplaincy program as a supervisor to the chaplain in the summer of 1982. A small group of members were taught models of conflict resolution and became the demonstration setting for practicing creative conflict resolution.  Pre- and post-testing demonstrated growth and positive change in each participant.  The congregation changed from self-defeating patterns in conflict, such as avoidance, to ones which accept diversity and value in appropriate conflict resolution. It also served to test the new form of organization for smaller United Methodist churches which place emphasis on group responsibility and accountability over that of hierarchical leadership. The training, which is described, occurred in nine sessions focusing on leadership skills and roles.  It was evaluated using the Style of Leadership Survey of Teleometrics, International, along with several other methods.
