The interview technique was adapted from a study done by William Perry and based on the faith development models of John Westerhoff and James Fowler. Those who were active in the church's youth program displayed a number of characteristics including: supportive parents, some type of emotional 'faith experience,' and a significant relationship with another adult for whom faith was important and meaningful.  Those interactions are more significant in some ways than the curriculum or program used. Two churches are the focal points: North Presbyterian Church of Lansing, Michigan and the Sunnyslope Presbyterian Church of Phoenix, Arizona.  Contributing factors to the phenomenon of the inner city church are psychological, sociological, political and economic.  In conjunction with references to literature and personal observation, there is a model for church judicatories in their work with inner city churches. My conclusion and prognosis are not of a great, hopeful nature rearding attitudes of the church toward the inner city mission. Along with the literature search, a questionnaire was distributed to all congregations within the presbytery and six case studies were conducted.  The author also investigates the relevance of the Church Growth and Small Church Movements for the Australian Church.  The major external influences focus upon the process of secularization and the cyclical movement of the growth and decline of churches within Sydney associated with the predominance of the middle class. To prepare for the seminar the author developed a Christian anthropology, researched the subject of stress and prepared seminar materials. After conducting it, he reviewed his findings with professionals from various disciplines and refined the process in further offerings.  Although the evaluations were not scientifically conclusive, participants in the seminars were very appreciative. A practical guide (manual), including over 20 actual pastoral epistles, merges the perceptions from the theoretical and technical rationales.  Evaluations of the manual by a panel of United Methodist clergy are reported. This thesis-project not only affirms this position but offers a stewardship plan to undergird such a ministry.  The project asserts that black Americans whose ties are to both the First World and the Third World could best spearhead such a ministry through the church using a praxis suggested by the Home Missions Movement in America. Utilizing the objectives design method, a curriculum encompassing a stewardship plan with a global perspective was presented to and ratified by participants. Research included interviews with consultants, an analysis of courses from other seminaries, and a questionnaire submitted to pastors, leaders of local church missionary fellowships, and missionaries.  The curriculum contains objectives, a syllabus, and thirty lesson outlines which make extensive use of adult education techniques.  Two pastors, two missions professors, and two mission executives evaluated the curriculum.
