A theological understanding of life, death and ministry was developed from biblical and secular sources.  Divided into six sessions, the educational experience utilized group discussion, audio-visual presentations, simulations, and visitation. Templer's 'Death Anxiety Scale' and subjective self-reporting were used to evaluate the effectiveness of the educational experience. After a review of biblical, theological, and psychological literature, the lay board members of six selected churches were surveyed for demographic information, opinions regarding volunteerism, and theological beliefs. The pastors of those six churches were personally interviewed regarding the same items. A study of the reigns of Saul, David and Solomon provides models for the exercise of authority among the people of God. Special emphasis is placed on the paradoxical notion of success: Solomon, the most 'successful' of the Israelite kings, proved unable to preserve the united monarchy for his successors. To uncover these factors twenty-eight 'main-line' Protestant church members were interviewed, each having been a member of a rural or small town church at the time of divorce.  The interviews revealed specific factors that caused some divorcing people to leave the church and other factors that enabled some to remain active. Research included an examination of the wholistic concept, its biblical and theological bases, and its historical development.  Models of wholism are included in the project along with learning experiences of the participating pastors and physician. A content analysis process was applied to stressful event descriptions submitted by clergy. Based on factor analysis of the reported frequencies of occurrence and relative effects of events, a list of 44 events named the Pennsylvania Life Events Scale for Clergy, or PLESC, was composed. East Ohio Conference"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["A factorial survey approach showed that latent racial, ethnic, and gender biases thwart implementation of a commitment to appoint pastors to churches 'without regard to race, ethnic origin, sex, or color'.  Little support was found to relate receptivity to religious beliefs, motivation, or involvement, except for attendance patterns and for respondents who have women pastors. Effects of racism and sexism education differ significantly. After an examination and evaluation of John Westerhoff and James Fowler's work in faith development, interviews were undertaken with adults, young children, and clergypersons. Parents and all members of the faith community are vital in young children's faith development processes.  The faith community must be intentional in providing programs equipping and supporting the above in environments where young children can experience and hear about the faith.
