A conclusion was followed by an appendix which surveyed 1,000 Protestant army chaplains reference their attitude toward the army chaplaincy. Further, special study is given to the contact that the sabbath makes with other kinds of reflection. Finally, a series of lectures was developed, presented and evaluated. This study concentrates on six broad theological sabbath themes: holy time, creation, redemption/liberation, sovereignty, equality, and rest. The meaning of the reconciling gospel and the influence of theological leaders, are shown to be major factors in the church union process. Resistance to change, tradition, lack of clear leadership and confusion in voting procedures were factors responsible for the anti-union movement. Methods of introducing major change and of encouraging corporate decision making are outlined."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["38714359-d032-4ed0-ae3f-cb82c8f65a92"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717590926360576,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:20:43.251Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:15:39Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:22:06Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"369e26fd-c90b-492c-a69b-898e8e47b9f8","accessControl_ssim":["fc95ebec-e1a5-4401-ab95-682a73d9abf7"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Cartoons as a means of self understanding and spiritual enrichment"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:15:39Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:42:49Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e45a2596-d4fa-4b5f-86a1-4f95ffe42e46"],"hasLease_ssim":["2d1dddf0-a901-4449-a71c-d0bc28920b83"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["John S Hadsell"],"year_tesim":["1984"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Darrell P Patton"],"publisher_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Psychology, Religious","Cartoons","Wit and humor--Religious aspects","Art and religion"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This work is an exploration into the way in which cartoon humor can be used in ministry. It begins with an examination of the nature and origin of the visual arts with particular attention to the cartoon as an art form. The study then examines the role of humor in human experience. It looks at the use of humor in the biblical narrative and its place in religious experience. The theological implications of humor are explored through the use of humorous treatments of theological themes. The study then examines the psychology of the self and the ways in which humor can be beneficial in gaining a deeper understanding of the self and explores the human spiritual journey with suggested ways in which humor can facilitate that quest. Responses indicated that both clergy and laity are open to explicit faith healing within the church if approached from a rational, critical perspective.
