It is followed by a post-seminar evaluation of a sermon presented in the participants' churches. The project was designed to teach parents some basic principles of Christian nurture, from a Wesleyan, theological perspective, informed by developmental theory. The child-rearing motifs of John Wesley were taught within the structural-developmental framework of James W Fowler's faith development theory, to inform parents of some of the theological and psychological factors necessary for a more informed nurture of Christian faith in their children. The project was carried out through a series of seminars conducted at the First Church of the Nazarene in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Twenty-two key issues were identified by survey and used to design a program for ministry reflection groups meeting every three weeks. Three pilot groups (1982) and four test groups (1983) used the material.  Transition by the test ministers was compared with that of four contemporaries.  Further experiment with the program as part of an integrated approach to transition during the first three years after ordination is recommended. This project suggests a suitable role and a proven model the minister can use to promote a parish program of chemical health.  Acting as a catalyst, using the redemptive principles of Alcoholics Anonymous, the object is to enlist the enthusiasm of parishioners to create a fellowship where learning, sharing and growth can occur.  The unique feature is that three diagnostic instruments are provided to identify chemical dependency.
