He explores the themes of sanctification and witness primarily from the perspective of his Wesleyan heritage.  The paper describes an eight week course, a many faceted, several month program and a network of small groups within a 700 member congregation. This realization prompted a survey and the implementation of the following goals: 1) all ages will be able to participate fully in morning worship; 2) a program of daily hot meals will be established; 3) services will be taped for the home-bound and services will be offered in their homes; 4) necessary transportation will be provided; 5) daily telephone reassurance will be available for people who live alone. The project approached this question from two fronts.  First, it compared burnout causes and symptoms noted among professionals with the experiences of lay people.  This research found a direct correlation.  The causes and symptoms of professional burnout are duplicated in the volunteers.   Second, a workshop was designed to awaken church leaders to the causes and symptoms of burnout, to develop their skills of observation and listening skills and to apply the workshop experience to local situations. This lack of clarity produces a frustation in both lay people and pastors which may cause them to move from one church to another or to leave the church altogether.  This project developed an eight week adult Sunday school class that explored the roles and expectations of clergy and lay people. Biblical insights on leadership and character are examined.  The author interviews contemporary Christian leaders in every geographical region in the United States.  Three of the fifteen questions discussed in selected interviews are evaluated carefully in this study.  These questions cover moral failure, moral precautions and personal integrity. Responses to a fourth question which relates to servant leadership are woven into chapters four and five. Explanations are given for why many Christian leaders fail in the ministry.  Suggestions are given regarding moral precautions for persons in ministry.  The interviews show a strong conviction that personal honesty is directly related to moral purity. Christian leaders are encouraged to be men and women who are committed to godly character. Human faith can be understood in FST terms.  Christian scripture is comprised of human faith statements .  Thus, FST would seem to be helpful in understanding and applying Christian scripture.  This project reviews Fowler's FST and examines I John 4:1-6 for evidence of Fowler's seven aspects of FST. It infers that the text demonstrates faith stage four aspects and, thus, confirms the thesis that FST can be a hermeneutical tool. Biblical validation and application of this definition is used in a case study in which the author evaluates his effectiveness in preaching. Conflict seems to arise more from teachings than from actual experience.  Research included a scriptural study of baptism and the Spirit using charismatic and non-charismatic sources and interviews with thirty people who claimed the experience.  The author compared an analysis of the experiences with the results of the scriptural study to determine if an alternate to charismatic theology could be offered. This project tests the presence of nine ministry models or role-sets in the Conference through a random survey of senior pastors, laity, Bethel Seminary faculty, national and district leaders.
