Four seminars held in the fall of 1986 were designed to explore how people age and how adult children can cope effectively with their parents in the new relationship which aging creates. The seminars included one session on understanding the aging process, another on relating to aging parents, a third on caring for aging parents and a fourth on available community resources. Aids such as books, audiotapes, weekly meetings and a guide were provided.  Research included an initial interview, an interim evaluation and a final evaluation (written and oral). The project consisted of the work of a design team of nine people from the congregation which included the pastor-author. The main focus of the course is sermon preparation rather than the actual sermon itself.  In an effort to improve the enjoyment and productivity of the sermon preparation experience the course explores creativity and the creative process and uses methods and techniques designed to enhance the preacher's creativity. The paper explores the concept of creativity from biblical, theological and psychological perspectives. There is a window into this neglected past through the saints of the Church.  During a six week 'Festival of Saints', a local United Methodist Church studied five saints: John of Damascus, Francis of Assisi, Martin Luther, Mary McLeod Bethune and C. S. Lewis.  Each week the Sunday worship centered around the saint and the appropriate part of the tradition. A worship class was formed to study, examine, observe and evaluate specific elements of worship as well as the Orders of Worship and worship resources available in the United Methodist Church.  Throughout the project, worship was considered to be that act that strengthens everything a congregation does beyond its doors. For them, the prevailing 'born again' model does not express their personal faith experience.  This project prepared a study which used a narrative approach to explore the faith stories of several New Testament characters and the course participants themselves.  Findings indicated that participants were uncomfortable telling their faith stories before the course.  After they were given a variety of models of faith experience, the participants were more comfortable telling their stories and realized the importance of doing so.
