The biblical model of conflict resolution between Aramaic-speaking and Greek-speaking Christians provided inspiration for the project.  A questionnaire was designed to survey and gather data on conflict management of Chinese-born and American-born Chinese church leaders.  Next, training sessions were developed with six areas of emphasis.  They were conducted at three Chinese churches in different geographical locations. The method was quasi-experimental, utilizing pretesting and posttesting of a test group and a control group.  The former met for nine months during 1987.  It addressed learning how to plan and how people minister and lead in relation to their personality type and spiritual gifts. The project affirmed the value of studying personality type and spiritual gifts. In 1986 the school needed to be reorganized because it lacked clear goals and a well-defined action plan for accomplishing those goals.  Also, materials used were insufficient for training members.  The implementation of this project demands a sound theological foundation which included an adequate view of scripture, ministry, and the role of the local church as seen in the Assemblies of God.  The biblical and historical role of the laity is discussed in order to provide an adequate basis for implementing a school of lay ministry. The core of the project consists of an instructional design which incorporates educational theory with practical application to produce all the necessary theoretical and practical elements for teaching the course.  In addition, the project includes a complete set of teaching notes which arise from contemporary missiological literature and the author's own cross-cultural experience.
