The criteria to measure this are theological soundness, liturgical consistency, and pastoral effectiveness.  This study includes an overview of cultural and church responses to divorce, a comparison of Catholic and Lutheran theologies of marriage, an exegesis of biblical divorce texts, a local study assessing participants' evaluation of a ritual experience, and a theological discussion applying a theologia crucis and the law and gospel paradigm to the issue. This project uses two types of research: literary research, which is done in the areas of preaching, communication, narrative theology, and biblical studies; and social research which includes a survey of the congregation and interviews conducted with a small group. Despite the vast energy poured into the renewal of Roman Catholic liturgy, this project indicates that many Catholics still do not find liturgical celebration to be an adequate expression of their search for, and expression of, God.  Study groups were devised to raise sacramental consciousness.  A comparison of responses made on reflection sheets before and after sessions indicates that the sacramental process had become overshadowed by sacramental events; and for many these events had become empty rituals. The priorities of the newspaper's various roles were explored by examining polls of Baptist editors and the Index's board of directors.  A profile analysis of the newspaper's constituency showed an alarming absence of young readers, posing a threat to The Index's future vitality and influence. Through social research nine factors were identified.  The most significant were: 1) worship satisfaction, 2) key leaders keeping missions giving identified as part of the church's purpose, and 3) a blend between pastoral and lay leadership that was highly satisfying. Materials on adolescent sexuality, parenting, and surveys of local parents and adolescents are used to determine what needs to be taught.  A series of three seminars on communicating sexual information are conducted for parents. Separate retreats are conducted for junior and senior high youth covering physiological information, biblical perspectives, emotional concerns and decision making. Research was based on models of education in the Bible, and through an historical survey of ministry formation methods with some examples of alternative methods used in North America.  Questionnaires and interviews were used to determine the need for education by extension among General Baptists. As the partners develop in maturity so would their relationship.  A curriculum was developed focusing on five character qualities.  These were selected on the basis of perceived needs and their occurrence in the New Testament lists.  A booklet of seven lessons was written for the 'Participant' newly married couple and another booklet was developed for the discipling couple who were termed the 'Host Couple'.
