Ararat Baptist Church, Nashville, Tenn, by reclaiming its worship heritage.  Cultural terms such as 'Black' and 'celebrative' were defined along with the direction the project would take. Biblical, theological, and historical research were presented as foundations for Black worship enrichment in chapter 2.  Chapter 3 analyzed the congregation for the need of the project using social research.  A program of worship enrichment stressing heritage awareness was presented.  Chapter 4 evaluated the project as needed and successful. The goals were: educate the congregation about faith development, and develop and adopt a ministry affirming childhood preconversions.  The pretest/posttest method measured the educational effectiveness of a preaching and teaching series.  The committee process developed and proposed for adoption a preconversion ministry.  Interviews with committee members provided subjective analysis of the entire project.  The goals were accomplished. A phone interview with fifty of the most recently hospitalized church members revealed a need for deacon visitation.  A survey of the deacons indicated that a majority desired to be better equipped for hospital visitation.  The training utilized the clinical pastoral education model including: seminars, case conferences, interpersonal relationship groups, and personal supervision. A biblical and historical survey of small group types was made, seeking to determine what effect, if any, these small groups had on discipleship and/or evangelism.  Surveys, questionnaires, and reporting forms were used to draw conclusions in both the church and the community. Chapter 2 gives the biblical and theological bases for Christian stewardship and chapter 4 contains sermons and other teaching materials implemented in the training program.  Chapters 3 and 5 include the summaries and evaluations of group discussions and the questionnaire instrument. The project, which could serve as a model or catalyst for improving worship at similar churches, examines the theological and historical roots of worship. From this review, certain biblical and foundational principles to creative authentic worship were noted.  The method of study included the use of a questionnaire and an in-depth worship analysis with the spiritual leadership of the church.  Creative worship is not a gimmick for coercing worshippers or a means of pumping a new spirit in a decaying institution.
