Communication style was operationalized from literature on media (primary orality, print, electronic), hemispheric lateralization (left-brain), and the Myers-Briggs thinking/feeling temperaments. Three communication styles were operationalized: discursive, presencursive, and presentational. Recent works on preaching were related to the styles. The hypothesis: when the communication style of a preaching event resonates with that of the listener, a higher listener satisfaction is reported. Three sermons were preached using the three communication styles, listener satisfaction ratings were secured, and a statistical analysis of style was computed. The conclusion: communication style preference and resonance do not influence listener satisfaction. Of interest is the God-image, one of many other object relations created by a child while in relationship with the alcoholic parent. This image of God persists throughout life unless either events or personal effort causes it to change. Based upon this image, a person forms characteristics of God that profoundly affect the way she/he relates to God and the environment. Each subject was asked questions from modified and abbreviated Rizzuto 'Family' and 'God' questionnaires. After answering questions about each parent, the subjects were asked to mark sixteen word-pairs in accordance with how they related to each one. Finally, they were asked questions about God and marked sixteen identical word-pairs. The results supported the hypothesis that the characteristics of God that these women formed as children were similar to the characteristics of their alcoholic parent."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["fc8e637d-6b92-421f-936e-4844dc981265"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134409439576064,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:34:43.514Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:12:28Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:34:27Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"2a26266d-00b7-43d1-aeea-564525536c73","accessControl_ssim":["b204008e-ce9d-4322-abd9-3a596d5bbc2e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Communication in marriage: change in affective communication within couples where one spouse is an incarcerated sex offender"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:12:24Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:21:56Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["ce9b8564-5232-4f48-95c1-3d2a04f524bb"],"hasLease_ssim":["b2672653-8094-4951-a269-4d374dc8289a"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["John E Hinkle"],"year_tesim":["1989"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Allen Palmer Price"],"publisher_tesim":["Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Interpersonal relations","Church work with prisoners","Sex crimes","Communication","Marriage counseling"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project determines the lasting effects in communication of a marriage encounter weekend on married couples where the husband is an incarcerated sex offender. The study demonstrates that a small group of people, with an intentional agenda of spirituality and stewardship, can come to grips with its own attitudes toward stewardship and become a cohesive, intentional cadre of people within a local congregation. Stewardship is understood as a cosmic orientation with God as the householder, Christ as the chief steward, and humanity as the stewards of the cosmos. The project dealt with small group life as a microcosm of the growth in understanding this concept of stewardship in the congregation."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["fc8e637d-6b92-421f-936e-4844dc981265"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134695814070272,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:39:16.622Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:12:05Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:33:23Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"14e271b5-24aa-4bf0-9cf8-c563e741628f","accessControl_ssim":["5322219b-6e7f-4694-b3e7-aad008772b2b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The professional development of a pastoral counselor: a comparative study of two models of case presentation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:12:04Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:44:11Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["983806d2-1f35-4d96-84de-e2af965050ad"],"hasLease_ssim":["aeba6b51-2309-479e-a0a7-e7564520f76f"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["James B Ashbrook"],"year_tesim":["1989"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Gilbert Joseph Roth"],"keyword_tesim":["Pastoral counselors--Training"],"publisher_tesim":["Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Karl, John C","Ashbrook, James B","Case method","Psychology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This study investigates ways in which pastors are trained as pastoral counselors using two case study methods: the conventional, medical-model method which employs analysis, diagnosis, and treatment goals; and the Ashbrook-Karl method which employs religious resources and active personal reflections around the case leading to theological reflection, theoretical analysis, and then strategical moves. Five hypotheses tested the essential factors that make up quality pastoral counseling: 1) self-reflection; 2) psychological issues and theory; 3) biblical stories and tradition; 4) theological integration; and 5) the ability to formulate a treatment plan. At the end of the training course trainees wrote a detailed case analysis based on a scenario presented via video tape. These analyses were used to test the hypothesis. The author found that the Ashbrook-Karl method helped early pastoral counselors develop their self-reflective abilities which increase their self-confidence and ability to learn and itegrate psychological issue and theory. With more seasoned counselors the method helped them get in touch with what is pastoral."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["fc8e637d-6b92-421f-936e-4844dc981265"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134328894259200,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:33:26.699Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":331,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
