It entails placing ministries in urban areas where there is not visible Christian witness. Difficulties in bridging intracultural and intergenerational gaps show the problems in attempting to establish a corporate identity and to define 'Black experience' for that corporate body. The curriculum is designed to integrate a wholistic mission theology with an understanding of contemporary world issues.  Throughout the curriculum, the Lausanne Covenant is used as a backdrop against which contemporary world situations are viewed, thus forming mission imperatives for the 1990's. The author first conducts a biblical and theoretical study of the discipling of non-literate believers in an African setting. He then conducted a survey of 314 Zairian young people as a first step toward preparing cassette istructional material. This material was used for five months by cassette monitors and then evaluated. To meet this need, a one-year, certificate level, ministry-oriented, low cost, schedule-sensitive, Filipino-lead church leadership training program was developed for lay leaders of provincial churches.  The certificate of church planting ministries program was based on a detailed philosophy and rationale for reaching the masses.  The eighteen-step curriculum design plan incuded a task analysis to determine goals and objectives and a survey of leaders to determine what topics were essential for the target students. Seven different categories are examined from a theological perspective to review the appropriateness of the Crusade.  The ability involves the mobilizing of churches in a Crusade context for this year-long project.  A computer-assisted analysis of an evaluation completed by a select core-group was used to examine this project. These retreats were designed and implemented to enable in care students in the Connecticut Conference of the United Church of Christ to identify and critically evaluate familial and psychological factors which have both influenced their call to ministry and the development of a pastoral identity and contributed to their prospective effectiveness as pastors.  The autobiographical and reflective data which has been shared by the participants has been organized around and is used to illustrate three significant thematic expressions of the nature and effect of those factors. Feelings, activities, and reasons for retirement were considered and included: anticipation of freedom from the schedule of meetings and other time-intensive demands; expectations to continue their calling as ministers in some way; and satisfaction in retirement related to collegiality if practiced in active ministry.  The author suggests that all levels of church governing bodies reconsider their policies and programs for the retirement of ministers.
