It examines the use of 'story' in preaching; examines the homiletics of George Buttrick, Fred Craddock and Eugene Lowry as a basis for comparison with biblical character preaching; shows the details required for using this form of proclamation; and demonstrates the intense Scriptural reflection which character portrayal requires. The practicum was conducted over a three-month period using members of the Arapaho United Methodist congregation to provide evaluation on the presentation of two characters: Jacob and Joseph of Nazareth. The finding of this project is that this preaching form is a valid form of proclamation but requires intense preparation and should be used by the preacher judiciously."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Perkins School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["9d359def-dc0f-4ac7-a978-8df771bc0984"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791126633419112448,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:31:07.723Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:05:56Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:30:54Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"159641da-c6bf-4e38-82c8-68e4325ffe79","accessControl_ssim":["cb18915d-982f-4f25-9c57-f7c7f5103193"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Enabling a local congregation to expand its Sunday school ministry by increasing attendance through improved teaching.."],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:05:49Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:45:20Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["47aa89c8-dfde-4d6c-8fdf-5bd44e3ba29d"],"hasLease_ssim":["c7eb6ba9-e01a-45f2-a5e0-ee6bacf00866"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Perkins School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Stanley J Menking"],"year_tesim":["1991"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["C Jarrell Tyson"],"publisher_tesim":["Perkins School of Theology Southern Methodist University"],"subject_tesim":["Sunday schools"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project addressed the problem of declining attendance in Sunday school.
