The author envisioned retaining and training young married professionals as the answer to this dilemma.  The recent influx of young married professionals into his church gave the author opportunity to implement a discipling project.  The participants were trained in three areas: interpretation of the Bible, teaching methodology, and understanding the pupils.  The entire process took twenty weeks to complete.  Three kinds of evaluation instruments were employed: pre/post-tests, pre/post-session teaching assignments, and questionnaires. After locating Chinese families from telephone directories, the outreach effort included telephone calls, direct mail and door-to-door visitation.  These activities were conducted with the hope that church members would be trained to reach out to the community through different means, and would generate opportunities to share the gospel and to increase church attendance. The author conducted an extensive personal study of the subject utilizing both technical and devotional sources.  During the ten-week project duration, the author preached sermons and led a task force of ten persons in a weekly, intensive study of prayer. A church with less than 10 per cent growth over five years becomes ineffective. However, a church that strives for both qualitative and quantitative growth will continue making useful disciples. This project's methodology was both practical and theological as the church evaluated where it was and where it needed to be.  Physical and spiritual growth occurred as the people examined biblically why they should grow.  This examination included Bible studies on the church's nature and mission as well as preaching on growth principles. The eight messages centered on eight hindrances, as discovered by survey, that most hampered aggressive witnessing.  The pastor organized members into small discussion groups, prayer groups, and witnessing teams to implement this plan.
