A committee of laypersons responded to and evaluated a series of four sermons using the metaphors of darkness and light.  The project is the result of critical evaluation of the practicum and research in the area of metaphorical studies. Homiletical literature was studied and three methodologies were chosen as the basis for six sermons on texts from Romans.  The sermons were evaluated by a committee of lay people. Biblical teaching, the Ellen G White writings, and contemporary scientific data were investigated.  These three views in psychosomatic relationships were found to be operative in life-style programs of health-conditioning centers in the United States, such as Wildwood Lifestyle Center \u0026 Hospital (Georgia), Uchee Pines Lifestyle Center (Alabama), and Hartland Health Center (Virginia). Based on the above studies, a health education program for Seventh-Day Adventists in Japan that incorporates the concept of psychosomatic relationships was designed. The project included a study group that engaged in eight study sessions of the book of Psalms.  This group then divided into five sub-groups, each of which was responsible for the ordering and implementation of a worship service centered upon a theme from the Psalms.  The project also included the efforts of a project steering committee that sought to explore the plurality of the worshiping community through the use of oral interviews. It was hypothesized that a change in orientation would occur in midlife, precipitated by a crisis and that change would occur in three stages: rule-following/conforming, rule-dismissing/questioning and value-realizing/integrating. Two studies were performed with 62 male ministers.  An attitude survey demonstrated no difference in the ethical orientation by age or denomination but self-reports of midlife crisis were significantly related to the questioning stage. After establishing a PPRC in a local church and identifying the need for a training process, such a process was developed. Four churches in Penn Northeast Conference, UCC, agreed to go through the process to test its effectiveness and each church evaluated the process.  The project showed the process worked. Based on stated theologies of wholeness, prayer, and spiritual direction, it was hypothesized that involvement in this process would enable persons to move toward wholeness.  The project design included a prayer workbook used by participants and instruments used by the author and clergy evaluators in making observations of participant responses.
