Pre- and post-seminary questionnaires were used to measure increases in conceptual understanding as a result of the seminar.  T-tests were applied.  A post-seminar questionnaire was used to measure perceived commitment increase.  These questionnaires were also evaluated to calculate percentage increases in self-awareness and perceived behavioral changes.  Didactic educational method was shown to enable both conceptual and attitudinal change in a statistically significant way. After presenting strict definitions of the terms 'power' and 'authority', he devotes most of the analysis of rabbinic power of the Talmudic, medieval, and modern periods from three psychological perspectives: analytical (Jungian), existential, and family systems. Training is most helpful when the caregiver is able to talk about personal feelings, beliefs and experiences; learn about phases of bereavement and grief responses; and apply these insights in typical caregiving situations. A specific focus is put upon grief as expressed individually and corporately.  Research was done with individuals and the congregation as a whole.  A qualitative approach was used, blending the themes of grounded theory and participant observation.  Specific methods included a journal, conversational interviews, and liturgical services.  Positive results were gained from having individuals and the congregation deal purposefully with their grief rather than denying its reality.
