The model was tested in the Barberton/Norton Cluster of the greater Akron, Ohio, area. Contextual associates from the five churches studied their context, constructed a theological model, and systematically evaluated the current status and potential of church relationship before designing the process.  This model describes the process and presents its conclusions and evaluation. A sermon series identifying what constitutes active church membership was presented to the congregation; a pretest-posttest opinionnaire was used to determine its effectiveness.  The author developed a model encourager program which included a membership committee and an eight-session encourager training course.  The effectiveness of the course was measured by the experimental method. A twelve-week worship seminar developed the role and responsibility of corporate worshippers. The author assisted the selected group in discovering and developing identity as persons. Activities included sermons, seminars, and discussion concerning the awareness of self-esteem. Evaluation involved a pretest/posttest questionnaire, critical observation, and several interviews by the author. The purpose of this project was to create a greater awareness of biblically based deacon ministry on the part of the congregation and to equip the deacons to become servant-ministers.  Two methods of research were employed: the experimental method and the descriptive method. With the combination of these two methodologies, the project was successfully accomplished. Through historical research, a thesis was developed that direct mail and telemarketing were suitable methods for prospect identification.  A program was developed to involve church members in mailing letters and making telephone calls to new homeowners and residents who lived within two miles of the church. The historical and descriptive survey methods of research were used to determine the developmental changes of midlife and the prevalent needs of adults experiencing those changes.  Six couples participated in an eight-week training program at First Baptist Church, Clarksville, Tennessee.  At the conclusion of the training, the results were tested by statistical standards and other methods.
