People are seeking such a fellowship and when the covenant fellowship is not found in a particular congregation, seekers look elsewhere. The ministry challenge addressed by this thesis is the intentional introduction and cultivation of interventions to develop characteristics which will move an aggregate congregation toward becoming a covenant fellowship, thus becoming more attractive to the seekers as well as more responsive to their needs. The conclusions reached in this study are that it is possible to create those physical characteristics of a covenant fellowship within a congregation which make a difference in retaining active members. The methodology used was to review the Fathers' work and preach nine sermons during Advent and Lent using the common lectionary and the work of individual Fathers as it related to a given text and sermon.
