This study describes how the researcher presented Merton's understanding about the Cross to a group of adults who were struggling with issues related to their journey through mid-life. Two procedures were used to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention: a qualitative approach involved the use of free-story interviews, anecdotes, and comments by the participants; and, a quantitative approach was utilized which involved the Spiritual Well-Being Scale. The spiritual well-being inventory did not indicate any statistically significant changes for the group in any of its measures of religion, existential or spiritual well-being. However, the data gathered by more qualitative approaches indicated that this intervention can have an impact upon the lives of adult lay people. Personal conversations with the participants provided evidence that because of the curriculum intervention and the prayer retreat at the Abbey of Gethsemani, Merton's understanding of the Cross impacted their lives."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["6c1e11e8-b66e-47b6-8fe9-6c546c20935c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134833610588160,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:41:28.034Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:22:22Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:41:30Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"f6150fc6-d155-4988-bf31-d0c550ea8b9f","accessControl_ssim":["d9490911-09a9-44f2-9c98-9e5034e7fd48"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Sharing the ministry: a systems approach for faith communities"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:22:22Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:09:29Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["c2cd52d1-7cbc-41cd-a1fe-fd3e5011b493"],"hasLease_ssim":["97ac02cd-fde5-4f93-b694-3308004aa6a2"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities"],"advisor_tesim":["James B Nelson"],"year_tesim":["1995"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Jean Morris Trumbauer"],"publisher_tesim":["United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities"],"subject_tesim":["System theory","Lay Church work"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis addresses the challenges of inviting members into the shared ministry of the congregation and sustaining their ministry involvements. Statistics and comments were derived from this survey and from contacts with school chaplains in England and the United States. A plan for chaplaincy in an independent school or college is proposed. The project proposes that the chaplaincy would be greatly strengthened by doctoral studies in pastoral counseling. Participation in the American Association of Pastoral Counselors is specifically encouraged."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133300492861440,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:17:05.940Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:21:54Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:23:33Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"824781ff-1a50-419d-b56b-b2dac0175bf8","accessControl_ssim":["39510339-059a-44cf-bbf8-b47591d9ec48"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Sin/evil in the view of Carl Gustave Jung"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:21:54Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:58:32Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["9a25d8e5-dcd5-4214-806d-e0b2fb8ccf28"],"hasLease_ssim":["3fc04a59-0f6f-4198-b94e-eee39444288d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"advisor_tesim":["Henry C Brooks"],"year_tesim":["1995"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["James Kallarckan"],"publisher_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Sin","Jung, C. The prayer styles reflected the functions of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. In 73 percent of the cases, participants found a prayer style they preferred. Levels of comfort, a sense of God's presence, and the style's similarity to prayer patterns utilized prior to the study were the strongest determinants of preference.
