It begins by contrasting individual psychology, family systems and group-as-a-whole perspectives on group dynamics in congregations, arguing that the latter offers the most resources. It continues with a discussion of theological issues raised by group dynamics and a survey of major psychological theories. This survey focuses on Freudian, object relations, self psychology, general systems, field and group-as-a-whole theories. Drawing on these resources and illustrative case material, the study makes recommendations for effective congregational participation and leadership."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799714704018374656,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:34:50.081Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:43:41Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:15:52Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b53f8467-c38b-4267-af04-b512e406fdac","accessControl_ssim":["8edb9d43-b5ae-44d8-be6c-520042d22fe1"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Pastoral counseling in the rural church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:43:40Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:22:01Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a67e94ef-a8f4-401a-8135-37536e48f304"],"hasLease_ssim":["dfd3c66e-05f3-4ca6-87d2-625305788feb"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["United Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Christie Neuger"],"year_tesim":["1995"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["William M Ziegler"],"publisher_tesim":["United Theological Seminary (OH)"],"subject_tesim":["Rural churches","Pastoral counseling"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The pastoral counseling activities were examined in a survey of 491 rural clergy from seven Northern Plains states. It exposes and addresses the relationship between themes, issues and problems of the congregation. The dissertation presupposes that the factions of the congregation are manifestations of factions in families that make up the membership. The problems that are unresolved in families show up in interpersonal relationships in the church family. The biblical narrative model used the favorite stories of a test group of caregivers, such as favorite Bible stories, favorite fairy tales and stories heard from visitations to discover disruptive themes in their personal narratives. The results of this dissertation answer, in part, the search of a pastor for ways to address the pastoral needs of four lay persons as these persons are being trained to give care to other members of the congregation. The results show that by addressing the pastoral needs of members of the congregation through the group process, the narrative of the text group can be 'reauthored' and the story of the congregation can be 'restoried'."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130654266621953,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:35:02.302Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:43:41Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:19:34Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"13e44720-b056-4ff2-b229-d1faede5eceb","accessControl_ssim":["b331901c-e67d-409f-83ff-29f38cd5f716"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The importance of infant dedication narrative in the spiritual formation of Assemblies of God church members"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:43:40Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:42:38Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["9b0c8b46-2082-4b3f-b05e-1777555cc8df"],"hasLease_ssim":["310eadc3-fa79-45ff-b7e3-eb81b310d657"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Houston Graduate School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Jack Rea"],"year_tesim":["1995"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Joe G Mazzu"],"publisher_tesim":["Houston Graduate School of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Assemblies of God","Infant dedication"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The author's thesis was that infant dedication narratives could benefit the spiritual formation of Assemblies of God church members. With the event of film technology, still another Jesus is introduced--what might be called the 'filmlical' Jesus. It is important for people, both within and outside of the church, to view these films critically, so that they are not misinformed or confused by distorted accounts--assuming them to be the gospel. Following an introduction, the evolution of the Jesus film genre is explored in Chapters 2-6: The 'Silent' Jesus (silent films); the 'faceless' Jesus (1950s-60s epics); the 'real' Jesus (1960s-70s attempts at historical authenticity); Jesus--the song and dance man (musicals); and the 'human' Jesus (Jesus' humanity explored). Chapter 7 provides suggestions of how the Jesus films can be used in the program/educational life of the local church; Chapter 8 offers some final thoughts. The appendices include an annotated list of Jesus films and a list of film/video distributors and resources for finding Jesus films to view and study."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e7e2d3cb-fc51-4ba5-a7fd-d43f3f8c150b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132108365758464,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:58:09.039Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:43:13Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:09:02Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"db9a864b-60ac-4a1e-b733-47e995709ffd","accessControl_ssim":["fb86928a-022d-40d7-a6ec-994ed9d4257c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A model for implementing church growth principles in established, declining churches"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:43:12Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:24:42Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e0b6221b-d6d8-489a-86ad-6c4f4b6f92cd"],"hasLease_ssim":["30785508-c358-4617-80f1-c66665663e13"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["John Vawter"],"year_tesim":["1995"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Lavern E Brown"],"publisher_tesim":["Western Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Church growth"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Programs that build on strengths and resources to produce growth can be implemented in declining churches. After education and planning, the project implemented two programs in a declining, thirty-year old church. Significant growth in attendance, membership and income resulted from the first program; nothing resulted from the second. The author concludes that programs which use available strengths and resources will be more successful and develop more rapidly. A five-part congregational-based educational series was designed to present Bible, doctrine, Luther's writings and ecumenical dialogues to stimulate a desire to live the faith.
