Drawing on the insights of family systems theory, particularly the concept of self-differentiation, the project focuses on the experiences of North American Mennonites, who in many ways have integrated into the surrounding culture but are still strongly influenced by the theology and practices of their tradition. The project enlists participants in experimental and control groups, administering a self-analysis that reveals the understanding and recognition of gifts. Members of the experimental group begin their training with the Myers-Briggs Personality Inventory to help them grasp unique aspects of their personalities, and then work through seven sessions studying the biblical basis for spiritual gifts in order to understand how God may have equipped them to serve in the church.
