Seeking to develop a structure that is consistent with shared theological and ethical beliefs in equality, justice, mutuality, diversity, and community, the group members aim to engage in the process, make decisions by consensus, accept diversity, accept rersponsibility for group participation and process, and to become more self-revealing. The power equity group model works for small groups whose members have interest in and energy for process and are capable of personal insight. A congregational study team examines the congregation in the context of itself, its community, and the Bible. A congregational survey reveals basic demographic data and important internal characteristics. The team produces a theologically sound, biblically based mission statement and a vision statement containing 10 realistic, achievable five-year objectives. Christian couples age 25-54, married 1.5-31 years, are assigned to concurrent groups for husbands and wives, while wives from the same sample are assigned to a group for women only.
