As pastors and lay leaders minister to church members and friends, the gifts of historical memory and tradition can serve as key resources in drawing closer together all who have adopted a particular congregation as their church home. Using a case study approach and drawing on biblical and historical themes, this project provides information about how to locate local church history and examples and illustrations for use in ministry. By tapping local church history, church leaders not only honor a congregation's unique story, but also share living traditions that continue to inform and empower its ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["7d2ba5b6-aeec-459a-aaec-e1eed75d32f0"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134181676285952,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:31:06.302Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:46:14Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:04:02Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"496f64fa-b3f2-4045-af0c-17509e43d134","accessControl_ssim":["1ea7e45a-74b8-4325-b8c1-1137ab1a08ff"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["An African journey: growing unto God by walking with the other: mission immersion as spiritual formation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:46:13Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:17:13Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["907e4f42-ae53-42da-b560-d6973066758e"],"hasLease_ssim":["b754b15c-6f9c-4491-b875-cfcdb0ad82c7"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Denise Dombkowski Hopkins"],"year_tesim":["1999"],"location_tesim":["Congo (Democratic Republic)"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Working within a Free Church polity, it then suggests there is much the church can to do connect its pastors to the lines of support, authorization and accountability they need for healthier ministry. Its six chapters offer: 1. an introduction on the need to think in expanded terms about our connections; 2. a definition and description of pastoral isolation; 3. a history of the principle of autonomy and its misunderstanding; 4. an analysis of individualism and social virtue, and the personal and communal power needed to balance them; 5. a covenantal ecclesiology upon which to base its recommendations; and 6. a church-wide plan to provide the connecting elements required, the hallmark of which is a thorough recasting of the role and structure of UCC Associations. The study concludes with an Epilogue on how things get done in the UCC."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133878260334592,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:26:16.942Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:45:51Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:15:10Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"018cb33d-7665-4a49-a565-359f9c2c4fe6","accessControl_ssim":["a901fe18-5e93-4191-b11f-7cc13bdf1d01"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Worship: structure and freedom in celebration of God; a course in worship"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:45:51Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:09:38Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["116ca33f-fb20-49a2-ab32-c2b666745f0c"],"hasLease_ssim":["9d44456e-f14f-4f2a-89f6-ace2923763e1"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["University of the South"],"advisor_tesim":["Marion Josiah Hatchett"],"year_tesim":["1999"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Nancy M Turner"],"publisher_tesim":["University of the South School of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Worship"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project, a foundational worship course designed for Master of Divinity students at a highly ecumenical seminary, proposes that students, including those from non-liturgical traditions, benefit from a thorough grounding in the traditional structures and history of worship as part of their ministerial formation. Due to the rapid population increase in the city of Keller and the growth in membership of Mount Gilead Baptist Church, most people are unaware of the exciting history of the church and its role in the community. After the history of the church has been carefully constructed, a thirteen-session seminar will build a change in attitude toward the history of the church in a control group of five to eight participants. Their knowledge of the history of the church will be evaluated through tests given at the beginning and end of the seminar. The seminar will hopefully serve as the foundation for three new teams. An historical committee must be established to maintain historical records. Another committee will be formed from this control group to organize the sesquicentennial celebration of Mount Gilead Baptist Church in July of 2000. It is concerned with the reasons why churches find themselves in such predicaments. An emphasis is placed on the biblical theology of restart. Of special concern is the research on the fall of modernity and the rise of postmodernism to take it's place. The thesis begins with a biblical theology of restart that is rooted in the purposes of God. The author demonstrates God's unflinching desire to accomplish His purpose even if it means setting aside unfruitful churches and drafting new agents. The third chapter addresses the purposes of God as they relate to the local church. What happens when a church departs from the purposes of God? The next section addresses the critical issue of postmodernism and how it's advent has pulled culture further from the culture found within most churches. Chapter five outlines the process of restart within the context of the local church. A step-by-step process is outlined and discussed. The work concludes with a chapter on leadership and team development. As we move into the new millennium information will continue to accelerate and changes will occur quicker and with more frequency. The chapter discusses the need for changes within the infrastructure of the church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132486758039552,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:04:09.901Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:45:13Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:38:33Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1742b711-4959-4506-954e-def02030977e","accessControl_ssim":["500559b7-a6c5-421d-b732-5f0200c4ecb3"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["World-building through mediation: mediation patterns and roles"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:45:12Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:48:35Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["ac0553d0-c30f-4a19-af44-c3865cb8bedc"],"hasLease_ssim":["dd166793-139c-4c15-a43b-0278a00126dc"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["David L Larsen"],"year_tesim":["1999"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Ronald W Toews"],"publisher_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School of Trinity International University"],"subject_tesim":["Conflict management"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Conflicts handled well make important contributions to humanity.
