Chapter one introduced the project, providing background on the church and explaining the research methodology employed. Chapters two and three were the heart of the project. Chapter two explored the biblical, historical and theological issues in worship. Two specific biblical texts (Isaiah 6 and John 4) were studied to consider the biblical call to worship. Chapter looked at the contemporary worship scene, coming to the conclusion that a fresh approach to worship is needed today. Chapters four and five outlined the actual work done in the project. The four sermons and worship services, as well as the response of the church to them, were central. The project concluded with an evaluation and assessment of lessons learned from the project."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["55f1694e-f3f1-43ea-8ca9-da9a2899defe"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128916337885184,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:07:24.884Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:12:29Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:21:30Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"4cf68843-f209-4e9c-b1ce-1b2f8ed933cd","accessControl_ssim":["1ddad754-3ded-41fb-b022-5a1489dfd1b4"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The spirit of hospitality: welcoming the stranger at Clifton Presbyterian Church, Atlanta, Georgia"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:12:27Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:23:44Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["bdde6b33-0593-4c0f-8c59-a9a37b066efb"],"hasLease_ssim":["01d15790-5b92-40b3-b1aa-8cb485ce5378"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Harold J Recinos"],"year_tesim":["1999"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. While some homileticians have argued that preaching is in a state of crisis, I believe preaching is evolving according to a new understanding of our universe. Visionary preaching moves beyond the old linear models of preaching based on a Newtonian mechanistic model of the universe. Behind the chaos of our postmodern world, the pattern of God's grace and power are at work. Visionary sermons must use a chaotic model for preaching about and for change. This study examines how sermons which speak to both the upside and downside of change and use embodied images of grace and power, can demonstrate God's sovereignty in a world of random, non-linear change."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["7eda0323-a6d9-4fe2-807a-22620dd389a5"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128373562441728,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:58:47.253Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:12:08Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:42:34Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"20a9ef02-d150-421c-ae4e-49c96e7bf479","accessControl_ssim":["aee11531-54bf-44a4-a5ee-6fa6002a1f6e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Female adolescent anger and pastoral counseling"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:12:07Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:06:00Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["793363ba-8e71-4445-8b62-62aa32a25a14"],"hasLease_ssim":["d8388ce9-b44e-4872-adb8-37cb4bde015d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Christian Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Brynolf Lyon"],"year_tesim":["1999"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Bunton, Rebecca J."],"publisher_tesim":["Christian Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Girls","Anger","Case studies","Pastoral counseling"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project seeks to identify factors that contribute to a female adolescent's inability to appropriately express anger and to identify what may be helpful in dealing with this inability through pastoral counseling. From the findings, the seminary may evaluate and modify the existing marriage preparation education of her students. An extensive survey covering all three aspects of clergy and premarital counseling listed above, was mailed to 150 randomly selected graduates. The perspective of the vast majority of pastors in this study is that clergy are the primary providers of premarital counseling and they believe it should be required of all engaged couples. In keeping with previous research, most of the pastors in this study claim that their seminary preparation in premarital counseling was inadequate. Less than 25 percent received a class or seminar, while about 60 percent claim to have had a unit in premarital counseling. Only about one third of the resondents were exposed to a structured premarital counseling program and the same percentage of respondents were trained to use premarital counseling assessment instruments. Since pastors continue to provide a significant link between the church and the family, there continues to be a critical need today for seminaries and theological institutions to better educate and equip them to provide effective premarital counseling ministries in their churches. This study, like many others, bears out this conclusion."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e57e5218-1d34-47f5-b1a5-b84efbc9e61f"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130837615378432,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:37:57.157Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:12:02Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:11:03Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"4164c829-5d5e-4286-bc2b-d1e90251c3ac","accessControl_ssim":["20f0f944-385f-4d2f-a675-6f1460793dab"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Constructing a profile of lay pastoral care-givers: an investigation of the Myers-Briggs type indicators and spiritual gifts of lay pastoral care-givers"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:12:02Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:01:49Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["302cfd95-ecdd-4304-9db0-18ddc89e0d6d"],"hasLease_ssim":["7f3b2a68-8a9c-49d3-bc07-08ae2661ad59"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Northern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Robert J Price"],"year_tesim":["1999"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Bryan, William J."],"publisher_tesim":["Northern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Church work","Myers-Briggs Type Indicator"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project proposes to construct a profile of lay pastoral care-givers. The lay care-giver profile must not be a barrier tests but only a general guide for engaging lay persons in pastoral care-giving."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Northern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e84517db-6a02-4e61-8d84-c85c5905f6d5"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799720758807625728,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:11:04.378Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:11:51Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:58:22Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a246d246-5db7-48ff-9146-0218a1bdfade","accessControl_ssim":["2e5a8177-01ef-4cf3-9066-6fb8d10c8115"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A whole new priest: a study of part-time ordained parish ministry as a call to new understandings of ordained ministry"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:11:50Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:51:38Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["8cebe707-80a7-4d0a-9a20-3f52681cdbf6"],"hasLease_ssim":["fc2bbbcc-b1cc-43c9-8a16-5bc8eec6a66f"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wycliffe College"],"advisor_tesim":["Gary L Redcliffe"],"year_tesim":["1999"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Browning, Catherine A."],"publisher_tesim":["Wycliffe College"],"subject_tesim":["Clergy, Part-time","Pastoral theology--Anglican Communion","Clergy--Office","Anglican Communion--Clergy"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This study is an exploration of the experience of part-time rectorship in the Anglican Diocese of Niagara. It begins with the argument that in a church in which the traditional expectation has been that ordained ministry necessitates a whole time and whole energy commitment to priestly work within the church, a significant shift in theology is implied when clergy are appointed to part-time positions. The implication is that now clergy may serve the church with only part of their time and energy; the rest of their time and energy may be spent in other areas of ministry. It is argued that this development represents one step in a series of changes that have taken place in the church's understanding of ordained ministry. It is argued that this development represents one step in a series of changes that have taken place in the church's understanding of ordained ministry, but one which breaks wide open the question of the role of parish clergy. The theoretical foundation of this thesis consists of a sketch of clergy ministry in the history of the Christian church, including clericalism, clergy ministry as wholly devoted, the remuneration of clergy, and gender as issues that arise from that history. Breaks from tradition including worker priests, team ministry and locally raised-up ministry are also explored. An outline of the author's theology of ministry as it relates to the subject of part-time ministry is also presented. Following an explanation of the research methodology, the data gleaned through a focus group/interview process with nine part-time rectors is presented and analyzed. The thesis concludes with the presentation of emerging understandings of ordained ministry in the Anglican Church of Canada and the implications of those findings for the wider church and the author's practice of ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128351372476416,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:58:26.091Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:11:45Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:38:40Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"10f0a0ab-6f34-4075-a0bd-5bddb004a2bd","accessControl_ssim":["c177deac-dddc-4a78-a5c3-31a87b330650"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Sophia's screams: the gospel on fourteenth street, a Bible-dialogue retreat between some members of Sojourners and St John's, Lafayette Square, in the city of Washington, DC"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:11:44Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:36:50Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f8bcce55-63dd-4786-988c-bac9a5bdf764"],"hasLease_ssim":["db80b53a-beef-47d3-b745-9a3a24513beb"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Harold J Recinos"],"year_tesim":["1999"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. I drew retreat participants from diverse settings of ministry which I have served over the period of my work in the Doctor of Ministry program at Wesley Seminary: Sojourners, set in the Columbia Heights area of the district, and St John's Episcopal Church, Lafayette Square, set in the 'Federal Square' area of Washington. I take the title of the project from two sources: Elizabeth Johnson's work, She Who Is, which pictures God through the biblical figure of wisdom, Sophia, she manifests power principally through compassionate anguish on behalf of the world's suffering; and the social context of both Sojourners and St John's Church, the 14th street corridor of Washington, DC, home to both the commericial and professional classes of American political and economic culture--and home to 'the pregnant junkie mother Leonor, who gave birth to twins infected with AIDS.' My dialogue model of biblical interpretation is grounded in four sources to be more fully described in this project: 'the Gospel in Solentiname,' a collection of discussions of Gospel texts by Nicaraguan peasants which were facilitated by the priest Ernest Cardenal; the'lament dialogue' tradition of prayer in the Hebrew scriptures, descripted by three contemporary portraits of the Book of Job, chapter 19; the dialogue between Jesus of Nazareth and the Syrophoenician Woman in Mark 7:24-30; and the biblical concept of pathos as outlined in a feminist theology of 'vulnerability,' and described by theologians Dorothee Soelle and Elizabeth Johnson. I term my model of group biblical dialogue, 'Sophia's Screams,' which is defined by feminine metaphors of birth, passionate resistance, grief, and affliction. My thesis for this project is that the principal transformation wrought by 'Sophia's Screams' is a people's deepened awareness of the screams of protest from those on the margins of our society, by being in touch with cries of resistance from the margins of the soul."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799714946127233024,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:38:40.973Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:11:39Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:42:16Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"6f8c34ca-ce12-474b-abba-7a6673229a1c","accessControl_ssim":["f4a5cb32-7587-405c-a182-298aaa7d0f7e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Designing, teaching, and evaluating a course on Christianity and world view at African Bible College, Lilongwe, Malawi"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:11:38Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:24:01Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["b81e6495-1c7a-4748-9b2c-c08ac16bcc7c"],"hasLease_ssim":["1c48c627-ad12-4154-b323-375b551f21e6"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["Paul G Hiebert"],"year_tesim":["1999"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Brown, Walter L."],"keyword_tesim":["World view"],"publisher_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School of Trinity International University"],"subject_tesim":["Africans--Religion","African Bible College (Lilongwe, Malawi)","Christianity","Interfaith relations"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This is a project deigned to teach world view issues to students at African Bible College.
