Through interviews, participant observation and the Whiteheads' method of theological reflection, the author places the experience of the interviewees in dialogue with aspects of US culture, post-Vatican II understanding of lay ministry, and Lasallian Spirituality. This project consists of academic research coupled with qualitative research data collected from workshops and interviews with pastoral care professionals from the Caribbean. Because there was insufficient scholarship available to conclusively make a direct link between slavery and the current subsequent behavior of Caribbean people, the author subsequently resorted to describing the oppression and its root causes, as it relates to slavery and colonialism and its resulting effects on the progeny of the slaves in the Caribbean. In order to effectively preach in the Caribbean, the preacher must have a solid understanding of oppression and its effect on the lives of the people."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Aquinas Institute of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["416f1c5f-a1c7-4596-b214-83b6abadee9c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130242923888641,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:28:30.015Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:58:47Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:47:11Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"02bb4aa0-684d-42f4-abf7-5b414c389eba","accessControl_ssim":["960fef26-a6e9-47e0-b6c1-83c2c8e9637d"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Worship renewal in the light of spiritual gifts"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:58:47Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:11:44Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["ff3c10a7-0051-4dd8-988d-8ca573ee30bd"],"hasLease_ssim":["0a05565e-e86e-4d1f-9261-52e59aa1d2b8"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Harry B Hunt","Eugene Keebler"],"year_tesim":["2000"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Lucien E Fortier"],"publisher_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Worship","Gifts, Spiritual"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Worship is a dynamic encounter between God and people, which includes service rendered to God. The goal of the project was to assist parents in examining the sexual ethic which they had created in the course of their life, and to assist them in exploring if that was what they wanted to share with their teenagers. The primary hypothesis of the project was that if parents better understood what they believe about sexuality they will be more willing to engage their teenagers in a conversation about sexuality. The dissertation begins with an overview of the epidemic of teenage pregnancies in the United States, with particular emphasis on South Carolina. Chapter two reviews the way humans construct their social reality and the effect that construction has on educational theory. Special attention is given to the work of Thomas Groome, with the following chapters built around his theory of education. Chapter three explores the work of William Strauss and Neil Howe on the differences between generations and how each generation has its own story. Chapter four shares the writer's journey with the issue of teenage pregnancy, as well as the stories of the project participants. Chapter five explores the work of several ethicists, Lisa Sowle Cahill, Christine Gudorf, and James Nelson, who are giving special attention to issues surrounding sexuality. Chapter six discusses the method of the project, with the final chapter giving an evaluation and suggestions for future action."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Candler School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["1e360310-aec8-4e88-a19a-00b4db71ef4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135099367981056,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:45:41.481Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:58:37Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:51:58Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"6c9e47a0-0fab-4298-86e6-faf87c67a5c7","accessControl_ssim":["9142ce46-b0f4-436f-a307-255699288bdb"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The Christian education of children as a means of evangelism"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:58:37Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:18:39Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["92149a77-f10f-44ba-b45a-229cec9ac64e"],"hasLease_ssim":["08284177-a3cf-4273-bb4d-051768636709"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Susan Willhauck"],"year_tesim":["2000"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The 'quantitative research method' was used. The middle size church (125-249 in worship), a vital part of our ecosystem, is found to be a declining, 'endangered species.' They are afflicted with stagnation and decline, short pastorates, high death rates, low reception of members by profession of faith, financial stress and conflicted identity and goals. Ten of our 18 districts are widespread and rural. These have 5 or fewer larger churches for anchoring, meetings, mentoring. Yet conference-wide, among churches with over 125 in worship, the number of middle-size churches (125-249) dropped from 179 (62%) in 1980 to 141 (47%) congregations in 1999. An alarming 83.7% of middle size churches were declining or had less than the 'poor' rate of growth (as per Wagner) of 25% growth per decade. Long term pastorates for all size churches was found to be the exception. 85% of 'pastors in charge' or 'senior pastors' will move before a 7th year. Length of pastorates and effectiveness in receiving unchurched persons were both found to steadily decline with each smaller size type of church. The author coined the acronym of LEMMINGS for 'long established Mid-sized Ministries in No Growth Situations.' With data from 1980 to 2000, this study is a 'snapshot' of the church as it begins the 21st century. A bibliography of current literature in the field of church growth is provided."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799720856920784896,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:12:37.945Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":377,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
