This thesis presents a simple imaginative writing exercise that enables preachers to attend more fully to scripture with heart, mind, and soul.  The exercise precedes and complements scholarly exegesis.  It contributes to preaching which is vivid, passionate, concrete, and firmly grounded in scripture. The author will seek to assist those who have had an encounter with evil and suffering to interpret their own experience.  Biblical and philosophical knowledge will be integrated with their personal experience as a means of equipping them to provide care for others who are currently suffering.  The project proposes that attempts to address the problem of evil and suffering through theodicy fail to provide both the adequate theoretical answers and the practical comfort sufferers need.  The project further proposes that the personal experience of those who have suffered uniquely qualifies them to address the suffering of others.  The concepts of a suffering God and the ethical demands of the incarnation will be presented as a basis for a philosophy of ministry to fellow sufferers. The power of personal testimony, the power of presence, the process of grief, and the pursuit of a mature faith will be offered as a means of preparing individuals to provide care for fellow sufferers. All involved in the research believed their intimacy increased, they communicated on a different level, and their ability to resolve conflict increased. However, marital satisfaction only improved in couples where just one spouse was an Adult Child of an Alcoholic. In both were, their marital satisfaction did not improve. Using quasi-experimental design, 42 high school aged participants formed control and treatment groups. The treatment group participated in a six-week education study on the Bible's teaching on sexuality. Peer leaders were included. Biblical knowledge and sexually permissive attitudes were measured before and after the treatment. Quantitative analysis revealed significant increase in biblical knowledge yet no significant decrease in sexually permissive attitudes. The author presents an introduction to household worship and printed materials for use in the home. The retreat would teach the mission team members about Waterbury and orient them for the upcoming week of day camp.  As a result of the project the Waterbury Baptist Ministries church members' self esteem increased and their level of hopelessness decreased, thus finding their place of service in the church. The project will make use of James Fowler's Stage Theory of Faith Development to provide a structure for the concept of growing faith. Participants will reflect upon their respective faith journeys, and use the Stage Theory to analyze their own faith experience.  The project will then introduce the use of classic spiritual disciplines to a group of church members through the use of material by Richard Foster in The Celebration of Discipline.  The author will propose that the practice of these disciplines will positively influence faith development.  The project will also investigate ways that the disciplines have influenced various Christian traditions as examples of the growth produced by the disciplines.  The author will also preach a sermon series intended to introduce the disciplines to the rest of the congregation. Finally, the project focuses upon vocation as the partnership of believers with God.
