To test this thesis, the author designed and taught a course in the spiritual disciplines and mentored selected participants in the practice of solitude, silence, and meditation. Ten recruits were selected for this study and were divided into two groups. Both groups were instructed at the same time, but only Group One was mentored on a weekly basis between class sessions. The measurement to determine if those who were mentored in the disciplines had an increase in practice and spiritual well-being above those who were only taught was to compare the pre-/post-test SWB and Discipline Frequency Report scores between the two groups. All participants increased in the practice of the three spiritual disciplines, but there was no statistically significant difference between the mentored and non-mentored group, nor was there a statistically significant correlation between the frequency of practicing the three disciplines and increase in the SWB score. The thesis was partially supported."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Denver Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e7af129f-938f-4821-9463-dc6ded35d563"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133994432069632,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:28:07.731Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:01:59Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:35:27Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"4f7e5adc-2334-4e77-9d51-f285fceed42c","accessControl_ssim":["0eecc8b5-bdc5-4f55-aae1-cbee6d0a8b81"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The Christian holistic equipment in the redemption of Jesus Christ our Lord"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:01:56Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:27:55Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a540db4d-f9ff-462c-8b08-2914414c1c46"],"hasLease_ssim":["c57b2972-3617-4cc4-9d03-0fe47def35d5"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Logos Evangelical Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Isaac Chen"],"year_tesim":["2000"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["I-Cheng Huang"],"publisher_tesim":["Logos Evangelical Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Holism","Sin","Church work","Jesus Christ","Pastoral theology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis examines how the anthropology and soteriology of systematic theology can be applied to the ministry of equipping the pastoral staff. The thesis has two parts. The first part has two chapters. It begins with the study of characters of the Bible, which points to a holistic view of man. Next is the study of sin, which is split into the guilt of sin and the shamefulness of sin. This sinfulness will cause people to live in bondage, oppression, and blindness. The second part of the thesis has three chapters, covering Jesus' ministry on earth. It first analyzes how he proclaims freedom for the prisoners, recovers sight foe the blind, and releases the oppressed. Then, this is paralleled to the situation which modern man lives in. Next, it discusses how the pastoral staff brings people to the goal of holistic redemption. Finally, it recommends that when the pastoral staff is leading believers, they should establish a people-oriented shepherding team-ministry that provides an environment for holistic redemption. It also recommends that they should establish the structure of a believer's life with small group ministries and with worship ministries. Thus, we may live out holistic redemption, and apply the above mentioned points to lead believers to evangelize and to become the expression of God's grace."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Logos Evangelical Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["54e7729a-4915-469f-8fd5-c7bb7ccd6c20"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134458401783808,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:35:30.208Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:01:55Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:38:03Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"9589197f-41cd-4296-ad20-0b904d8904e0","accessControl_ssim":["0ae76757-c336-428f-b23b-72c06dc4fd7d"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Research into expository preaching: using 1 Peter as a model for preparation of expository sermons based on the structural analysis of the biblical text"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:01:55Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:30:36Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a260f8be-e803-4788-a898-92bf8c2c388c"],"hasLease_ssim":["c14fede3-e93d-4827-94a9-308f58949fcd"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Logos Evangelical Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Julie Lee"],"year_tesim":["2000"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Chih-Zin Hsiao"],"keyword_tesim":["Sermon preparation"],"publisher_tesim":["Logos Evangelical Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Sermons","Expository preaching","Bible. Preachers who have not experienced the full power of preaching lack practice in expository preaching. Expository preaching involves understanding the contents of both exegesis and preaching, which means interpreting the Bible and applying the teachings in the congregation. In order to gain wisdom from the Bible, one needs to fully comprehend the meanings of the Word. using the type of analysis that rearranges syntactical Greek and examines the Chinese and English language structures helps achieve this goal. This type of analysis yields syntactical display, which shows not only the threads of thought in the Scriptures, but also the outline of expository preaching. This project explored the liturgical year from Ash Wednesday to Pentecost to see what wisdom may be found in these seasons for the growth of spiritual vitality in the context of congregational ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133103749595137,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:13:58.310Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:01:22Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:02:16Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7e7f7323-d64b-45e4-982a-16b6f8691359","accessControl_ssim":["fdcf7ac9-3a95-4391-9a9e-d12053e30c66"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Using a prayer task force as a means of outreach"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:01:21Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:51:44Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a4e5c5b2-5fa2-4951-93a6-4525aa3c3f0a"],"hasLease_ssim":["054a4930-b4a0-4580-b849-975afe0a866a"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Franklyn Harber"],"year_tesim":["2000"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Jimmy D Holland"],"publisher_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Prayer--Biblical teaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project is designed to show the common link between prayer and outreach. This paper examines the biblical and theological foundation of 'pastoral care,' then traces the development of the pastoral care worker system developed at First Christian Reformed Church in London, Ontario. The writer interviewed a random sampling of both pastoral care workers and members of the congregation to determine to what degree the pastoral care given and received was accepted. A 'Training Manual for Pastoral Care Workers' was developed and is included in the paper. The study determines that the pastoral care system developed at First Christian reformed Church in London respects the traditional understanding of the Office of Elder as accepted in reformed churches, but expands the options for ministry by involving others who have spiritual gifts for pastoral care ministry. The writer used a specific strategy of introducing innovations that helped the congregation accept this non-traditional pastoral care delivery system. The weaknesses in the system include: greater development of pastoral care in specific need situations, further training, and better management of the delivery system."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c654e922-76d0-4427-ac29-e286b7997781"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799715774787485696,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:51:51.246Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:01:08Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:13:17Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"aa66be03-d0b7-4fef-a73c-7dadce2119e8","accessControl_ssim":["9b13306c-5b94-415e-a787-08337e39834d"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Developing a first person biblical preaching as a means of creative communication"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:01:08Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:03:33Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6c93e600-671c-40e1-9a26-08b186dd2d8d"],"hasLease_ssim":["7f5ba6d6-7e92-461f-827c-830c349c7338"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Janis Huggett"],"year_tesim":["2000"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Leslie C Hewitt"],"publisher_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Preaching","First person narrative","Bible plays"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This dissertation/project considers first person biblical preaching within the framework of Troeger, Rose, Gilmore, Childers and Lowry. The author contends that the church is still locked into the literary-print era with sermons preached from prepared manuscripts. First person biblical preaching portrays the gospel in a visual format suited to the electronic multi-media culture of television and computers.
