First, sanctification is reviewed within Wesley's Way of Salvation. Next, the impact of the nineteenth century's holiness movement on sanctification is examined. Several lay people and clergy were interviewed to determine what contemporary United Methodists know about sanctification. Then eleven lay people participated in a five-week project, studying Wesley's experiential theology. This project measured attitudinal and behavioral changes resulting from a ten-week interracial small group experience. This included development of clearly defined guidelines of supervision and team roles.  The project discusses roots of teamwork in ministry found in the Bible as well as defining 'success' according to New Testament principles.  Team leaders are trained to follow Jesus' model of servant leadership and to become holistic administrators who must function effectively as managers, leaders, and stewards.  Tenets in Family Systems Theory are also used to train team leaders. The use of the liturgical year as the operative framework allowed new members to be introduced to the basic worship life of the church.  The Revised Common Lectionary provided a biblical foundation which was compared and contrasted with Congregational principles as described in Arthur Rouner's The Congregational way of life. The project constructs narrative techniques in preaching and small groups to allow individuals to understand their lives in terms of character, plot, setting, and tone.  The experiment took place in a medium sized United Methodist Church in Ohio.  The study employed the one-group, pre-test/post-test design utilizing a questionnaire designed by the researcher.  The results were inconclusive. Results showed a strong correlation between seventeen team behaviors and seven outreach activities for 502 respondents in nine small group ministries.  Men correlated 25% better than women, and leaders and participants correlated similarly. Overall, higher team competence and purpose led to higher outreach activity. In the experimental phase, test leaders from men's groups trained in key team and purpose competencies applied these actions to their groups. The Bible is filled with transformational leaders.
