Individuals within the church who have evidenced a call to vocational ministry will be paired with a pastoral staff member who will serve as a mentor. The program will attempt to develop these ministerial students through mentoring relationships. The project leader will meet weekly with the pastoral staff and ministerial students for large group teaching sessions related to spiritual growth and ministry. The six members of the pastoral staff will meet with smaller groups of ministerial students (two or three students) on a weekly basis for mentoring. The mentoring meetings will consist of debriefing these students on the personal growth achieved through the teaching sessions and various assignments. The pastoral staff will meet together weekly to discuss issues and questions related to individual groups. This project will provide a preparatory learning experience for ministerial students and show that mentoring is an effective means of spiritual and vocational growth. The purpose of this project is to provide a process to help Baptist associations develop a ministry plan that will assist member churches in meeting the ministry needs of their community. The project plan will use a study group from a selected association, the Palo Pinto Baptist Association, Texas, to act as a model. In a series of meetings, the project leader will teach the functions of an association and will lead the study group to answer four basic questions that will aid in the development of a ministry plan for the association. The study group will define the association's core values, determine the association's purpose and mission, assess the basic needs of member churches and their community and ascertain the most effective organizational structure for meeting these needs. Over one hundred students will travel to Henderson, Nevada, to attend a meeting at Highland Hills Baptist Church called 'Frontliners' as their summer mission trip. The students will be taught eight lessons entitles 'Engage Your World.' The strategy of the study will be to give the students a foundation of the fundamentals of the gospel that will enable them to share their faith with other world religions and cults. The students will be taught a brief history and some of the major beliefs of a select group of religions and cults that will enable them to recognize who they are encountering and how to share with them. Eight teachers will participate in this project. The project leader will conduct an initial meeting with them to introduce the project idea followed by an eight-week seminar on interactive teaching, which will be videotaped. The seminar will focus on learner-centered interactive teaching-learning methods based on Jesus' teaching style as described in the four Gospels. Two of each teacher's Sunday school teaching sessions will be videotaped, one before the seminar begins and one towards the end of the seminar, and will be evaluated. Finally, the teachers will meet as a group with the project leader and share what they have learned through the process of the project. A leadership group will be enlisted and is to be comprised of fifteen persons: the five-member vocational staff of Morningview Baptist Church and two key lay leaders enlisted by each staff member from his/her field of ministry. The group will focus on the life and mission of Jesus in the gospels in order to determine the mission of the church. Careful study will then be given to the role of leadership in accomplishing that mission with the model of servant-leader given primary emphasis. The project will begin with an overview and pretest before focusing on Jesus' mission through his life and teaching. Assignments will be given from the scripture as well as supplemental sources. The project-in_Ministry is an implementation-oriented project in which the author included: 1) research into an understanding of grief; 2) development of training sessions to equip those selected which will include a biblical rationale of a grief ministry, a working understanding of the grief process, and a process to minister to grieving families; and 3) training of members of the church to minister to grieving families. The primary purpose of the project is to reveal to church leadership the necessity of dealing with conflict in a biblical manner. The ultimate goal is to lead the focus group to develop a strategy for healing relationships in times of conflict, and then to create a desire within the church to adopt that strategy. All the material within the project is designed to approach the positive side of conflict. The sermons focus on the biblical material while the small group sessions deal with both biblical and secular materials.
