The model is communal and arises from ancient lectio divina and modern theories of calling a circle. The model was tested and evaluated in a small, urban congregation. Participants were moved, and tended to view the model as preaching with one another. A design is offered to take the model into congregations of any size or sanctuary architecture."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128808247525377,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:05:41.801Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:35:22Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:44:26Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"fcb41479-690e-4ec3-bf09-c3b014ec795c","accessControl_ssim":["016705b1-2cf0-4f15-883d-e1448633606a"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Preaching to the masses: preaching that connects in a large Roman Catholic congregation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:35:21Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:21:20Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["c8e29150-e167-458b-b2a3-a6ddd455e296"],"hasLease_ssim":["e34f8f22-0179-4591-9192-83510dbf4829"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Seabury-Western Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["John A Dally"],"year_tesim":["2001"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Harry J Tasto"],"publisher_tesim":["Seabury-Western Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Catholic preaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Most studies of the effectiveness of the preaching experience have been conducted in relatively small congregations in which it is demonstrated that the success of the preaching is based on the preacher knowing the language, culture and the history of the congregation. This study measured how effectively the preaching experience connects with the faith needs of the members in a large congregation of over 11,000 members. Immediately after the preaching experience on the eight Sundays in this study over the course of three years, the entire congregation was invited to respond on an instrument which elicited statistical data on what the congregation member heard in the sermon and how the sermon touched his/her life that day. A third open-ended question followed: Why did the sermon touch your life? Averages of 1,400 evaluation forms were statistically calculated on each occasion. 89-93% of the entire congregation indicated that the sermon connected with their faith needs. With the effective use of high-context communication style the preacher in this congregation has moved from outsider to insider in this large congregation naming the grace of the members living a faith-filled life. What was learned and experienced here in this large suburban congregation in Minnesota is of significance and value to preachers in other large congregations."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131248461086720,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:44:28.970Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:34:54Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:52:16Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"30e236b3-1bb0-4f5e-b4bd-51654c1697d7","accessControl_ssim":["8a2cadad-14d0-44b0-b0fc-ecccb256155d"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Goldsboro, North Carolina, and AIDS ministry"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:34:53Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:33:16Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["bf2abf9e-8ad1-4dd5-a85d-5362ba7a4e4a"],"hasLease_ssim":["1e2e01ad-62f5-46c2-b02f-45bed5918d7a"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lexington Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Anthony L Dunnavant"],"year_tesim":["2001"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Frederick W Clarke"],"publisher_tesim":["Lexington Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Church work with the sick","First Christian Church (Goldsboro, NC)","AIDS (Disease)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["AIDS ministry came to First Christian Church in Goldsboro, a conservative town in eastern North Carolina, because of the leadership provided and because of the congregation's sense that this fits in with their Disciples ethos and world view.
