This project asserts there is profound meaning in Jesus' summation of the law given in Mark 12:29-31.  Namely, the way in which one loves oneself is integrally related to the way in which one loves his/her neighbor and God. The program was drawn specifically from traditional American forms of and resources for care.  A curriculum was designed for Black pastors to use in religious education programs to help the pastors maintain and expand the extension ministries of their local church. This study defines and discusses individualism at the family meal table and the 'Lord's Table.'  I then discuss these findings in the light of the Gospels, First Corinthians 11, and John Calvin's writings to gain theological/historical perspective.  Finally, I argue that individualism severely weakens our experience of the Lord's Table and the Church's witness. When implications of the sociological as well as the religious perspectives were used to establish an interpersonal relationship and discover male perspective of the church, the following issues were raised: (a) Denominational conflicts (b)Irrelevant programmes (c) Uncaring members (d) Church attendance not necessary. Selected members of the author's congregation were studies, using both questionnaires and personal interviews, in order to discern their attitudes and the sources of those feelings.  Findings indicate that most of these persons do not share some of the negative attitudes reported in the literature. A premise of this consideration is that such a discovery and appropriation will be most helpfully regarded as a specific case of the process of contextualization. This project focuses on the challenges of pastoral responsibilities and family life, using the writer's personal experiences, discussions with other pastors and literature review, thus following the descriptive methodology.  The research revealed that because of the need to fulfill what is expected of them, pastors find less time for their family and personal development.  It further found that spouses and children feel neglected and abandoned for church work and therefore, need more of the pastor's presence in the home. Anonymous self-mailing surveys were sent to all current Brethren pastors using a list of core values, and open questions about methods of expression and values priority.  These pastors were then asked to distribute self-mailing survey to three laypeople in their context.  These surveys were then analyzed for significant differences.  Statistically significant differences were found in the methods of values expression and in values priority, with 52 pastors reporting expressions and priorities that reflected a professional perspective of ministry, and 111 laypeople perceiving expressions and priorities that reflected a relational perspective of ministry.
