As a beginning point the project leader will select a group of culturally diverse pastors whose churches cooperate with the Baptist General Convention of Texas.  These pastors will attend training sessions designed to assist them in their understanding of vision in general; however, the focus is the vision of the Baptist General Convention of Texas.  Other training sessions will involve the study of church and community demographics and an examination of the culture of the pastor and his congregation. Finally, the pastors will be encouraged to discover how the vision of the Baptist General Convention of Texas might be relevant in their culture and environment.  The vision of the Baptist General Convention of Texas is built around the concept of churches being the presence of Christ in the world. Stephen Ministers at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana, practiced lectio on scripture, life events, and relationship with a care receiver for six months.  Journal entries, written and oral response to reflection questions, and comments, concerns, and questions addressed to the researcher at monthly check-in were analyzed. Mission activities include evangelism, local and global outreach, and ecumenism for sharing the gospel with non-members. The focus was to create community through a process of dialogue in an effort to define the meaning of patient focused care.  As the organization was undergoing considerable crisis (provoked in part by fiscal restraints at the time), a special emphasis was placed on organizational grief.  The two domains engaged in the study were from organizational development, specifically the work of Peter Senge as it applies to organizational learning and pastoral ministry in the context of a Critical Care Unit in crisis.  The findings validate the learning organization as a concept in support of change and empowerment. In addition, a theological/pastoral perspective, while recognizing the value of the organic, relational nature of organizational design, pointed to the need for the development of personal awareness, as an issue of capacity for relationship in organizational learning. The revitalization of a church is not revival or reformation. It is the biblically delineated and identified principles given to leaders to enable a church to move from its disabled and diseased status to one of vitality and health. This dissertation will point out the necessity of this ministry which will be clarified in the introduction of this paper. This dissertation has seven chapters. Chapter one explains why revitalization is necessary. Chapter two gives several key principles of church revitalization while chapter three gives a biblical paradigm for revitalization. The content of chapter four is a review of four contemporary books that have been written on the subject of revitalization. Chapter five highlights the 'Embers to a Flame' church revitalization conference materials and chapter six suggests several key roles that pastors and leadership can play in keeping their church vital and healthy.
