The project involved interviewing pastors and denominational leaders to assess the needs in the denomination.  It also involved teaching a fourth year class at Columbia Bible College which was designed to recruit and train a new generation of preachers. The basic premise of the project is that although spiritual growth, or life transformation, is something only God produces, there is a definite role that individuals play as recipients of God's grace. Although spiritual growth is a process, it also requires intentional effort on the part of the believer. The Apostle Paul indicates the need for this kind of balance when he says, 'Continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose' (Philippians 2:12-13). This pilot project involves offering a discipleship class called The Spiritual Exploration Class. The class challenges participants to identify a spiritual growth edge in their lives. Then, within the context of a small group and together with a spiritual director, each participant develops a personal spiritual growth plan to give focus to his or her efforts. The project essentially serves as a catalyst to move a person toward spiritual growth. The success of the pilot project is measured against the stated objectives of the project for the purpose of improving future programming. Phase three involved the post-training interview and evaluation of participants and the project director. Documents on deacon selection and training criteria were produced. It identified social and personal reasons for addiction, and by a series of interviews and questionnaires with present and past members of the program, with mission staff, volunteers in churches and other recovery programs, it determined that the steps did lead to the outcomes, but that they needed to reflect better progression, relapse prevention, and emotional growth. Pre-course questionnaires/interviews were used to gather information from ABF attendees, other large church evangelism leaders and Chapel pastors.  Findings provided singificant content and structure for the curriculum.  Six Sunday lessons were presented in the ABFs.  Each lesson addressed the biblical mindset of personal outreach and methods for verbally representing Christ.  ABF participants and teachers responded to a post-course questionnaire.  Results showed appreciation for the course but need for more discussion time. Six two-hour sessions of instruction on the attitudes about masculinity were implemented with six pre-adolescent males.  By engaging the use of a pre/post test with experimental and control groups, unstructured observation, follow-up interviews, and a summary of learning after each session, the qualitative research design found that there were shifts to a more mature understanding of masculinity in the participants. Clergy are often the first chaplains to respond to community disasters, providing pastoral care and victim assistance. But, chaplaincy is very different than being the pastor of a church, and ministering within the context of cultural and religious diversity is very different than being the pastoral leader of a specific congregation within a particular religious tradition. A lack of engagement in ministry and fellowship provides opportunities for newcomers to fall away unnoticed.  A four-week course for new members was the heart of the program and required the project leader to design and acquire resources.  Church members and members of the staff provided assistance with the preparation, instruction, and execution of the program.  Each new member received information regarding the church, ministry opportunities, Baptist basics, and the Christian life.
