The workshop consisted of a workbook outlining specified skills and practices for effective and productive ministry. Because the project was an equipping model, the project consisted of four personal goals. First, current relevant materials needed to be gathered. The primary focus was on the role of the senior Pastor. The primary context was a seeker-oriented church, and was led by the pastoral staff more than by committee. It was concerned with he question of what leadership roles and actions would most likely lead to a successful capital campaign. A secondary question dealt with the theological implications related to fundraising in a local church. A primary premise of the work is that there is a strong correlation between the way the primary leader approaches a capital campaign and the effectiveness of that campaign. When the additional issues of a seeker-oriented philosophy are added to the mid, this correlation becomes even stronger. Strong leadership must be theologically driven. The thesis begins with a look at the important roles of the leader during a capital campaign and then explores the complications in a capital campaign for a church that is seeker-oriented. After a review of the literature, the thesis probes the theological issues related to fund-raising. the work includes a chapter defining and defending the case study methodology employed. The thesis then moves into a case study of the leadership of Ogden Church's capital campaign. The thesis concludes with a chapter that evaluates the case and gives suggestions for further study. A question the thesis poses is developed around the idea of what the essential roles and actions within those roles are for a leader to be effective in leading a capital campaign in a seeker-oriented church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132767818350592,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:08:37.942Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:53:40Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:53:05Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"9acefed9-72a2-49c7-96b7-36aea848a161","accessControl_ssim":["30267f0f-f148-4bb9-aa2a-3cbe38e91b61"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Preaching that effectively communicates to teenagers"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:53:36Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:39:36Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["8562a47f-6c1d-42f0-94b2-5f39f9ae7e74"],"hasLease_ssim":["5a70926f-bd6b-4748-9430-7052c379ca2a"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Sid Buzzell","Haddon W Robinson"],"year_tesim":["2003"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["William J Bowser"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Christian education of youth","Expository preaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project explores the need for preaching pastors to understand the biblical mandate to preach expository sermons that are relevant to teenaged listeners. The legitimacy of humor from a theological standpoint is examined and established. Further, the value of humor as a tool in communication is explored and explained. A theological rationale for humor in preaching is provided in this thesis. Humor's use in preaching is validated by its presence in creation, in redemption, in revelation, and in the incarnation. Particular attention is given to the existence of humor in the scriptures, and most notably, to Jesus' frequent use of humor in his teaching ministry. This study deals with understanding the basic essence of humor. The nature of what makes something funny is investigated. Also, the beneficial effects of humor, in life generally, and in communication specifically, are thoroughly considered. This project also offers information about how humor can be used appropriately in preaching. Suggestions on developing a humorous disposition and discovering humorous material are included. In addition, instructions on the delivery of humor are offered. A description of the dangers associated with the use of humor in preaching is also addressed in some detail. Overall this thesis asserts that humor is an aid to effective communication that, when used appropriately by preachers, can enhance the impact and influence of their sermons."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130893023182848,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:38:49.997Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:52:37Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:54:07Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"9ec4fead-02e0-40d2-b385-f13baa64353e","accessControl_ssim":["0347f795-1a49-4b84-88dd-e25fe68f5a14"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Developing a healthy prayer life"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:52:32Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:46:31Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["687da3b3-37e9-4bb4-8b22-5c68f36ccf94"],"hasLease_ssim":["ae9aeb7c-90f0-4931-8c9b-0995ab7828af"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Richard F Lovelace"],"year_tesim":["2003"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Casiday H Warren"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Prayer--Psychology","Spiritual life--Christianity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Most Christians have received little training in the art of prayer. As a result, their prayers are often anemic, unbalanced, unhealthy, and tend to be self-focused in nature. It is a premise of this thesis that there is a healthy way that Christians can pray. Healthy prayer is a balance between self-focused and God-focused prayers. This thesis demonstrates through its various constituent prayer projects that healthy prayer can be taught to Christians through a variety of structured prayer programs that included an accountability component as well as structured learning opportunities. Furthermore, this thesis confirms that growth towards a healthy prayer life is measurable. This thesis proposes that Christians who attempt to adopt the healthy prayer life model into their prayer lives will grow spiritually and can become instruments of change within their church and the kingdom of God because their prayers are being directed by the Holy Spirit."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131858059132928,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:54:10.328Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:52:13Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:18:33Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"2e853dd7-a458-4016-a9d6-cd1fe6ed3f8f","accessControl_ssim":["e2772875-2600-427a-b777-5fd67ca397c3"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["International churches as launching pads for mission to indigenous peoples"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:52:13Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:29:11Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["5e3dc921-d485-4068-b0ee-e97086527e97"],"hasLease_ssim":["182d74c3-ea54-4feb-b8db-e1e30b46b537"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Denver Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["David Pederson"],"year_tesim":["2003"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Dan P Bowers"],"publisher_tesim":["Denver Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Evangelistic work","International Christian Fellowship of Caracas","Missions"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["International churches that minister primarily to expatriates living abroad have the potential to become launching pads for mission to indigenous peoples. Methods: The author conducted a case study of the International Christian Fellowship of Caracas and a survey of forty-two other expatriate ministries in order to evaluate the missionary potential of international churches. Included is a theological and theoretical search for a model of expatriate ministry that can be used in outreach to indigenous peoples that leads to the planting of a national church. Conclusion: Because many of the approximately 1,000 international churches are involved in outreach to indigenous peoples, and because some have planted national churches, they should be considered as an alternative approach for mission to the middle and upper classes in the major cities of the world."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Denver Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e7af129f-938f-4821-9463-dc6ded35d563"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133395442466816,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:18:36.491Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:51:43Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:52:06Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"9666e59d-3d7a-49eb-a073-9b681aa2f08f","accessControl_ssim":["670234a8-15dc-4527-aaf0-e0c8c7f02e6e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A year round church in a seasonal town: local church ministry in New England resort communities"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:51:43Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:32:01Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["17186612-7a4c-443d-8db5-db7358635243"],"hasLease_ssim":["4fea47e4-e712-4b22-96a9-dbbb45444f96"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Raymond F Pendleton"],"year_tesim":["2003"],"location_tesim":["United States","Maine--Ogunquit","New England"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["David R Clark"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Cities and towns","Church history","Resorts","Missions"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["There are many communities in New England that, because of tourism, are seasonal in nature. Most preachers desire to be successful in their pulpit ministry yet many question whether or not it is. The purpose of this thesis is to define successful preaching and list the results a preacher can realistically expect through the faithful preaching of God's Word. The basis of this thesis is the nature and authority of the Word of God. The author will posit that the Bible, the sixty-six books of the Christian canon, is the authoritative Word of God and, therefore, is powerfully effective to bring about change and growth in the lives of the listeners. The effective power of God's Word is, however, affected by three variables: the sovereignty of God, listener response, and the message preached. While the preacher cannot control either the sovereignty of God nor listener response, he is able to remove the obstacles to the faithful and effective preaching of God's Word. This thesis begins by laying the theological foundation for building a case for success in preaching: the nature and authority of both God's Word written and God's Word preached. Next, the vast field of homiletical literature will be explored in order to define the criteria that can be used to the purpose and process of a preaching groups that was formed to encourage successful preaching. This thesis ends with the author's findings, conclusions, and recommendations for maximizing the results a preacher can realistically expect from the faithful preaching of God's Word."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132055053008896,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:57:18.196Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":497,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
