This project centered on determining a basic approach to establish a definitive Christian Education ministry in local churches with lay education volunteers. A catechism developed for Nashville Tennessee First Church of the Nazarene served as the primary teaching instrument. This study evaluates the methodology used in the delivery of a character-based program focused on universal principles in the context of relationships among public high school students at North Cobb high school in Kennesaw, Georgia.  While not an exhaustive study of character education, this study explores a successful method of facilitating character development.  Three research questions have guided this study: 1. What was the level of character in the target group at North Cobb high school at the beginning of the program? 2. How did the level of character change in the target group at North Cobb high school because of the program? 3. What was the quality of treatment given? A sermon series on the doctrine of covenant may positively influence the practice of the discipline of prayer in the lives of those who seek a deeper walk with God.  The researcher chose to preach this series in the genre of first person biblical characters.  This study describes how the researcher presented a sermon series to a local church congregation utilizing responses from the congregation and a small group to measure changes, if any, in cognitive and/or behavioral practices in their practice of prayer.  This is an evaluation study in the experimental mode which uses a pre- and post-test design.  Two procedures were used to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention. 1. A qualitative approach involved the use of interview, anecdotes taken from informal conversation, and comments by the participants in the small group.  2. A quantitative approach was utilized which involved the structure of prayer scale developed by Luckow, Ladd, Spilka, McIntosh, Parks, \u0026 Laforett. Twenty-eight people were interviewed of surveyed from the MAC region (three laypeople, fifteen pastors, and ten professors).  They answered eleven questions that dealt with components of holiness evangelism. The results revealed a significant consistency in motivations and attitudes concerning service as chaplains and ministers. The third chapter proposes three conversations that take place in the preaching act:  the preparatory conversation, the homiletic conversation, and the reflective conversation.  The fourth chapter describes the program that I developed in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati for the preparation of deacons who preach.
