The author examines BLS in the light of practical theology, using the model and method of James D. and Evelyn Eaton Whitehead.  This method of theological reflection places Christian tradition, experience, and the resources fo culture in dialogue, suggesting a framework for discussing building and/or renovation of churches, as set forth in BLS.  A rationale reflecting a habitus of practical theology develops.  Pastoral strategies arise from this rationale. Disappointed Pastors are those who are currently in the midst of disappointment and burnout in their contexts of ministry.  Overcoming Pastors are those who have emerged from a time of disappointment and burnout.  The most often expressed sources of disappointment for both groups were higher expectations of laity, 'politics,' and administrative demands. The underlying conviction of this thesis--that listeners are always co-creators of meaning along with the preacher in any sermon event--is based upon data collected during a three-year preaching project, and upon the work of a number of contemporary homileticians. The main thesis builds on the work of Fred Craddock who viewed the purpose of the sermon as 'getting something heard.' It is a ten-session, twelve hour training course.  For this project the course was conducted using a retreat setting for half of the sessions and five consecutive Sunday evenings for the remaining sessions.  The primary target group is adult teachers currently serving in the project leader's church.  In addition, a select number of potential leaders were enlisted to participate. The project will address the following content areas: The purpose of Sunday School, the role of teaching in Sunday School, spiritual gifts in relationship to teaching, developmental stages of adults, learning and how learning occurs, levels of learning, how to study the Bible, lesson preparation steps, methods of teaching, lesson presentation skills, learning styles, and teaching for spiritual transformation. This course is designed to only address teaching needs and does not address organizational or outreach roles for the teacher.  A course text will be prepared by the project leader along with various teaching aids, worksheets, survey forms, visual aids, and evaluation forms. The volunteers for this study were Anglican clergy from the Diocese of Huron.  The project has grown out of the traditional Anglican demand that the clergy participate in a discipline of daily offices, the sense that these offices no longer meet the needs of the clergy, the Myers-Briggs personality type indicator and various forms of Lectio Divina.  From this I developed specific daily offices for each personality type.  The volunteers filled out a pre-test survey.  Then they followed the daily office for their personality type for one month and finally filled out a post test survey. 94.4% of the clergy surveyed said that the traditional daily offices did not meet their needs for spiritual development and nurture.  There was no significant difference by personality type.
