The goal of this project is to critically examine, define, and detail one of those new methods called 'Prescriptive Preaching' whose goal is to provide its listener with explicit and helpful actions, prescribed and exemplified in a specific biblical narrative, which empower and equip the listener to cope with a relevant life issue. This methodology is currently being successfully used in the preaching life of St. John's Congregational Church, a 1,300 member black church comprised mainly of this new generation of black churchgoers. Through reflection on the creation, delivery, and evaluation of eight project sermons, the integration of residency course work, and committed discussion on the same with St. John's members in a Parish Project Group this project seeks to discover and establish the guidelines, goals, theological, biblical, and homiletical foundations and exegesis, and preparatory process that informs the methodology of prescriptive preaching. Responses of 34 participants indicated that the provision of programs and activities were a major factor in influencing youth toward participation in the church.  A significant number of the participants felt wanted and needed in the Church. This particular retreat was held in western North Carolina during the fall of 2002. There were twenty-nine participants and fifteen staff who attended the retreat.  There was a daily rhythm established of proper nutrition, educational elements, worship times, play, and small group dynamics.  The participants learned about the importance of diet, exercise and mental health in living with a terminal disease.  They also learned about the importance of story, personal and sacred.  The participants had opportunities to experience God's love through accepting attitudes, unconditional love and agape gifts.  Relationship building activities were conveyed through small group dynamics and community activities in the craft area. Three goals were set up, measured and achieved during this retreat.  Participants experienced reduced anxiety. Participants had an enriched experience of their belovedness in God.  Participants gave voice to their spiritual deepening.  There were positive changes recorded in each of these assessed goals. Twelve adult participants completed the twelve-week leadership training program that was primarily developed from the meta-model.  A battery of instruments was used to assess the effectiveness of the program and skills acquired by the participants. Revival is defines as the reanimating of much of the church by the extraordinary work of God,  The view of revival is distinguished from two other views of revival. Guided imagery prayer can heal the shame women feel. The process used was a spiritual retreat for women. They were led in guided imagery meditations of four healing stories of Jesus: the healing of the bent-over woman (Luke 13:10-17); the healing of Jairus' daughter (Mark 5:21-24a,35-43); the woman who had been bleeding for twelve years (Mark 5:24-34); and the woman at the well (John 4:4-30). After each exercise they participated in a discussion about their experience. The retreat was a positive experience for each woman. Some of them felt healing that day. Few of them continued to use the meditations by themselves after the retreat.
